Scarecrow is now selling the one you saw on Amazon.de. It is region 2 pal though. I'm giving it a shot. The price is better than the italian one they were selling and this looks a little more promising.

280 minutes version... I would very gladly watch this one...
Anyway, I think the price is a bit high. Another problem are the subtitles being just in German. Can't be that there is no more space for more subtitles...
Ah, let's not forget that stupid thing of the regions (Not scarecrow fault's, of course). In this case, it wouldn't be a problem for me, but it is for many people... Have I said it's something stupid?

I'm not sure why anyone would want the subtitles in English as the audio is English anyway. I bought the film from Amazon and it took just one week to get the the UK. Now I just have to find 5 hours spare to watch it...

I saw this version over a decade ago when Wenders screened it in in Los Angeles. The whole thing was in English as far as I can remember...no need for English subtitles.

Just watching it... the german version has German or English Audio. But only german subtitles.

The 4:40 version certainly fills some gaps compared to the cinematic version. But it is certainly easy to get lost. And it lacks two important things (I don't know if I spoil anything for you if I tell you :) )

After finishing, I agree with some other comments: The cinematic version leaves more things uncertain, and open. This helped this movie very much for me.

You can get it at Scarecrow video domestically. If your DVD player isn't multi region you can go to http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php to find out how to recode your DVD player. Just don't forget to recode to watch normal DVDs.
It's worth all the hassle if you ask me. The only thing is you wish you didn't have to change the dvds this movie was always one where i thought you could drop in at any time, very ambient. The extended vversion does make it quite a bit more episodic, almost like three movies. the chase, the end, the aftermath of the device.

Just somebody who doesn't believe trolls cruising for customers for DVD-rips on IMDb forum boards is appropriate, especially when the real thing is readily available.

If you're a fan of this film or of Wim Wenders, then it shouldn't be a problem for you to go and purchase your own copy, rather than promoting low-end piracy.

If you have this type of hostile interaction with people on the internet, you're probably a basket case in real life and thus should be avoided.

IMDb also felt the same way and thus deleted the users post about trying to sell bootlegs.

Get a clue, hobo.

What do you base this belief on? Have you tested for it? Is your theory predictive? Or does it have the substance of a faulty and unscientific Intelligent Design belief? With so many deleted posts on this thread, John_Titor_2036, it's hard to know the context of your remarks. But as the thread stands now, you seem to be criticizing someone who suggested people hack their DVD players to be multi-region in order to play the German DVD version of Wenders's film.

Do you understand the difference between (i) stripping copy-protection from a DVD to distribute copies and (ii) hacking a player's firmware to allow it to play DVDs from other countries? The first act is a clear violation of copyright law. The second is a way to bypass software-enforced distribution restrictions that limit a DVD's playability to a particular region of the world. The first issue is has to do with intellectual property theft, the second, with allowing you to watch legitimate DVDs from other countries. Multi-region DVD players are completely legal -- Philips and Pioneer both make them -- and authentic DVD releases are not "bootlegs."

I understand the confusion and I squarely apologize, even if it is not my place to do so.

The confusion on this thread and the other, was that 'moroccanwaltz' posted a spam advertisement for VCD bootleg copies of Until The End Of The World with a link to their site ... and then IMDb administrators deleted it, which I believe now is just a blank line on Page 2.

I should've deleted my post or rather never made it, knowing that the person's post would quickly be removed. But that was all some time ago. Instead I remarked upon it, a little incensed knowing the full history of this film and the difficulty WW has had with WB and getting US distribution.

Regarding your post, there's a good review on Amazon which spells out, in the last paragraph, about DVD remotes codes, etc. which is useful, and I didn't denigrate anyone for trying to adjust their players to region Zero, sorry if the truncated nature of thread read like that. The other person to post was, probably the same person under a different account, taking out their frustration for having their post removed / or account deleted for spamming and bootlegging.

Just finished it...yeah german subtitles only..but was a minor distraction since I got the story line from the american version (and my gf speaks french!). There's definitely more of the story, and now I know why I see two distinct false-endings in the shorter American release: this edition meant to be published as a trilogy. So in that respect, I'm glad I saw the shorter American version first; but now that I've seen the extra story from the actual trilogy it was quite fulfilling, One brilliant piece a footage not in the original; aboriginal children 'playing' with a grass fire! This is an incredible achievement and simply amazing it was ever made and finished. It is required viewing for entry-level humans. See it.

Don't worry about the lack of English subtitles. 90% of the film is in English, with just a few scenes in French. And even then, it is easy to figure out what is being said from context, and from the fact that Sam Niell is the narrator, and is speaking English.

By the way, have you tried googling for a (presumably fan-made) English subtitle file?
A lot of the time, when there is a foreign-language film that is not available subtitled, fans will make their own English subs, which you can download and either place over the video in some players (although I'm not sure if this works for DVDs, or only video files), or just read those scenes in a text file, like a script.

Not too long ago I bought a Japanese film that has never been released (in any form) with English subtitles, and I thought I would have to just figure out what was going on by context, until I found a fan-made sub file like this. It's worth looking into. If you aren't satisfied just figuring out those few minutes of French by context.

For years i watched the US version on VHS, i also own the soundtrack. I've recently been able to see the full length DC, but the audio seems strange, all the pitch levels seem too high, Sam Neill's voice and even the music seems to high in pitch, by just a small amount, can anyone else confirm this?

heh, no. But I bet your VHS was running to slow. Do you still have the VHS? I'd love to get a copy of the american version. I can't find it anywhere anymore.

the vhs was taped off of cable, not to mention its not a good copy. however, i have to disagree with the idea of it running slow(which i had thought of as well) based on the soundtrack, which i have on cd, theres no way that's running slow, and the pitch difference is very distracting to me. oh well, i can think of a few solutions to fix this.

so after further research it seems that the issue of the speed is due to it being in PAL format, apparently this is a common issue.
