Satellite falling from the sky + Dream viewer are true!!!!

Two news articles from this week:

An artficial satellite fell out of orbit.

And researchers developed technology to view thoughts/dreams.

Uncanny coincidence!!!!!!!

I know the movie is supposed to take place in a not-to-disant future. Anyone remember specific dates?

The film was set in 1999 (shot in late 80s before the fall of the Wall and breakdown of the Soviet Union) and spans to February (when most of the Aborigines leave the compound in the Outback near the end of the film) and later of 2000.
