There's a few soccer players who became NFL goal kickers that would kick with their bare feet. They kick with the side of their foot, not their toe. The shoe gets in their way, and it also gives better feel of the ball on their foot. Some players have some really weird quirks. I remember one kicker - can't think of his name right now, but I believe he kicked for the New Orleans Saints -- but he could never kick while looking at the field goal! A player would lead him out to the field like leading a blind man while the kicker looked down at the ground, and then was placed him appropriately behind the place holder, and that's how he would kick. (Google it if you don't believe me).
