Bill Sadler

Just re-watched this after 15 years. This is stretching it but Mr. Sadler should have won something for his performance of Death. The game scene never gets old - "I said Plum"(waving them off to calm them down). Just outright hilarious and totally unexpected comedy in the beginning of the movie.

"DAMN RIGHT!"

I agree with you, I can watch this every time for Death alone.

Hahaha - yeah. That one gets me ever time.

His delivery, facial expressions, and overall presence in the movie is total perfection. Yes, he gave a great understated comedic performance.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

I know dude! Just watching this again and with Sadler playing serious roles, he kills as Death. Everything he does in this film makes me laugh. It never gets old.

I liked the first movie better, but Death is amazing! The whole game scene had me in tears!

He actually did win the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor - the only award this film won. So basically, he won the Oscar of sci-fi/horror/fantasy. And he absolutely deserved it, he was fantastic.

Haha - that's awesome!

Yeah, Sadler was gold in this movie! Definitely should've got some kind of recognition for it. I always thought the Oscars should have an award for comedic performances, so roles like Sadler as Death could win something.

Sadler was on some streak at the time when he did this movie, coming off of an awesome performance in Die Hard 2 as Colonel Stuart, and he just nailed this movie. He made this film, and the board game like you said is a great all time memorable scene.

He was my C.O. in Nam. CIA listed him as MIA but the V.A. ID'd his M.O. and put out an APB.

And a couple of years later, Sadler was also a scene-stealer as Heywood in the Shawshank Redemption. "Heywood, what you in here for?" "Didn't do it. Lawyer fûcked me."

Yeah - he did pretty well in Die Hard 2. Wasn't as good as the first Die Hard but you are right - his performance stood out.

Sadler is awesome in everything I've seen him in. I think I first became aware of him from the very first episode of Tales From The Crypt where he played a prison executioner who loses his job and starts executing people vigilante style. Later on he was in the first Tales From The Crypt movie, Demon Knight, which I loved him in. Usually he's a supporting character or villain, but he had the lead in both of those. Though in the episode he was the lead and the villain, but in Demon Knight he was the good guy. He also had a great recurring role on Star Trek Deep Space Nine as Sloan, the icy cold operative for Section 31. As was already mentioned he was great in Die Hard 2 and Shawshank, plus he appeared in another Stephen King/prison movie, The Green Mile. Since he's usually a bad guy it's fun to see him in comedies like this. If you like really goofy comedies (like this) he's also pretty funny in the movie RocketMan with Harland Williams.

He is in a movie that doesn't get enough attention with Bill Paxton and Ice T called Trespass. He is great in that too. I love him in anything he does.

Sadler's also great in Project X (1987), where he plays a scientist running experiments on chimps for the military. He's another bad guy in that, but not as bad as some other roles he's played haha.

Has anyone on this board mentioned how he reprised death in season 6 episode 8 of tales from the crypt? Has some fun with the keeper in the opening. Made me smile.
