How to get Bernard and the Genie - easy (maybe)

There is a solution to getting this movie in the USA.

The one discussed on Amazon is questionable as its quality is sub-standard for DVD. Sure the movie is quite old, but you can bet the ORIGINAL Master (or close to it) is of broadcast quality and can easily be enhanced, if needed. Also $22~30 for a low-quality DVD? Yeah, like many people - we want this movie. But not some cheap pressing with nothing on it... unless its a $5 release... ugh!

So HOW to get a nice clean copy of Bernard and the Genie?

Get your DVD-Rs, DVR or other recording devices ready and check your schedule!
Go to www.pbs.org and check your local schedule. Its playing in my city this year, so perhaps at least it may play in yours.

Okay... got it.

Haven't seen this movie in years. Not as great as I remember it, but nice to watch. Funny to think "This is a Christmas movie?" - then again, thats why we enjoy it. :)

As some people have pointed out, the quality on the DVD is pretty poor. Well, watching this over cable from a local PBS station - the video quality poor. So there is a chance that there isn't a high quality "print"/ video to master from - including the UK.

But that is okay (kinda) - the story is there and its not like we're trying to watch Avatar or Battle Star Galactica which was made with the latest equipment with budgets.

Still fun to watch.
