I really disliked this movie because it rambles on at great length to make trite observations about human nature. I am not overwhelmed by the fact it's set in Provence (a beautiful place which the director shows us very little of), and this is why I think I seem find nothing remarkable about any of the characters. The artist is an ordinary man plagued by the ordinary turmoil of getting old. His wife loves him, becomes a little jealous then is finally consoled. The life model is just that: an empty life model who may as well be made of plastic. In other words a good life model whose tedious and very ordinary human foibles get in the way of her function. Finally the film rambles on at great length to no purpose. The conversations and relationships between the characters start off very nicely and politely and when they 'degenerate' it seems to have no effect on the process of painting this great alleged masterpiece we never get to see. It's all very ordinary.
