Beautiful

This film is remarkable - seamless, timeless, torturous, and noir. Emmanuelle Beart is astonishingly captivating. I can't believe that I am only the 2nd person to comment on it! Please see this, it will open your eyes from start to finish.

I'm only halfway through, but I think this may well be the best film I have ever seen... it just epitomises beauty in every way. Why don't they make more movies like this?

Because it's difficult to find women as beautiful and charming as Emmanuele Beart. She sure made the 3+ hours a lot faster.

Agree, terrific movie, I had the 4 hours version and it felt like it was hour long.

Emmanuelle Beart helped in that department tho, had a feeling I could watch her for hours.

Like all Rivette, it's seriously stripped down and stretched out, but it does occasionally achieve some kind of near-hypnotic rhythm I guess. Even so, it probably wouldn't have hurt if he'd cut down on at least some of those ultra-abundant instances of doodling; I'm not sure the damned thing by all means had to be 4 hours long.

I'm not such a huge fan of this film -- especially with the passing of time, as I find it does not stick in the mind like Rivette's best work does. But seeing as you enjoyed this enough to give it a 7, franz, I think you'd like The Story of Marie and Julien and perhaps The Duchess of Langeais. As I've said before, I think the former is Rivette's masterpiece.

Pretentious crap. Yes a pretty nude but nothing remotely filmic about it.
