Is Gaston intended to be handsome?

The constant emphasis on how attractive Gaston is might just be for showcasing his ego. The issue could easily be an extension of the stark contrast between Gaston and Beast by the end of the movie if the audience is supposed to see the first character as very physically awkward, as I do. Does anyone think that Gaston is handsome?

reply

I don't find him attractive, but he may be an exaggeration of what many women do find attractive. Tall, dark, well-built and a chiseled face. He looks too much like a caricature, though.

reply

I agree. I didn't find him handsome at all, but I think he was supposed to be handsomeness on steroids. Like take things that make a man handsome and dial it up to 11.

reply

Slightly handsome, and convinced he's the best-looking man in the kingdom.

reply

Alright, maybe he's /slightly/ handsome, but I certainly wouldn't be crushing on him. And yeah, he clearly thinks he's the best. 😉

That's a creative way to explain it, LeiaOfLothlorien. (In reference to your first reply.)

Thanks, haha.
