Question for fans of the animated movie of Beauty and the Beast

March 17th its the day that the live action version of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson (Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series) is released in theaters in the United States. For you that are outside of the United States, I don't know when the movie is died to be released in your country. So are you planning to see the live action version of Beauty and the Beast in movies theaters, yes or no and why or why not?

I'll see it if the film has garnered good reviews. Despite how well the trailers were done, I'm still not completely sold on seeing the movie just yet. That said, I don't want to support Disney's penchant for "re-imagining" their classic animated films especially if the original films has little to be actually improved on. One big problem with these new films is that while they will be good films, they will lack the cultural impact and novelty the original animated films had when we first saw them. However, nothing's wrong with adding the un-adapted story elements from the original literary source as long as it deepens the context of the film.

Well, not sure about watching it in theaters (largely because I need to make sure the films are good before I go, can't trust reviewers, made that mistake with Hunger Games), but I'm most certainly looking forward to it, since it seems to be showing a lot of promise even with Emma Watson playing Belle. For starters, the Enchantress will be playing a major role in this based on her having a name, and possibly as co-main antagonist; Belle's actually GIVEN a reason for not leaving the village despite not liking the village at all; there are actual elements to the fairy tale being added in (like Beast apparently ambushing Maurice when he tries to take a rose from the garden, like in the fairy tale), and also their confirming that Beast was cursed at 10 years of age, among other things such as Belle actually demonstrating that she is good at inventing to show her intelligence rather than JUST books. All I need to wait for now is making sure Gaston doesn't stupidly blurt out key details of his plan in public, plus making sure they actually addressing the issue about the Beast's castle's distance compared to the village, and it will be all set. Oh, and probably also making sure the triplets, IF they're in this, actually ARE foils to Belle in terms of the main theme of the movie, or at the very least that she has any foils at all relating to that theme (in other words, their beauty is only skin deep).

I'll be watching it Yes. Why? Well I watched the cartoon as a kid and I would like to compare this version to it, however I also think that there will be more links to this movie and the original story than the original story and the Disney cartoon.

I'm absolutely not interested. All these live action adaptations have been really bad. And I find Emma Watson to be rather annoying, she's also totally miscast as Belle.

Yes I'm excited to see the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

I probably will go and see it at the cinema, it will be quite interesting to see how it compares with the original.

reply

I'm willing, if a friend wants to go I'll go, but I won't see this in a movie theater for my own sake.

It can't possibly be better than the original, or as good.

So would you watch it when released on dvd or blu-ray since you ruled out going alone?

reply

Probably when it comes on the Disney channel.

I wouldn't breath too deeply of the live action version of Beauty and the Beast going to the Disney channel for any time soon after it comes out on dvd, the last 3 years two of the last 3 remaining or live action versions of their animated movies haven't been shown on the Disney channel as of yet and the more recent one of the Jungle Book from last year is still too new to be shown on a tv station like Disney Channel that takes commercials breaks when they show movies.

Im definetly going to watch the live action version in 3 weeks time(hope its out in Ireland in 3 weeks time). The trailers for this film are so breathtaking(even though like Cinderella im afraid they showed too much on the film). The acting so far seems very good and even though im not a fan of Emma Watson but she looks the part of Belle as both her and Belle are bookworms and feminists.
