What a strange movie! I read Carson McCuller's "the heart is a lonely hunter" and enjoyed it immensely, so I knew I would probably like this movie also....it is completely her style, a little disturbing and depressing, but wonderful.

shareHow have I never seen this film?? I love the honesty of the characters, the exquisite scenery, and the subtleness of the acting. Less accomplished actors could never have produced this thought-provoking gem.
I've read some of the negative comments and conclude they came from people who don't like to have to think about plot, symbolism, or characterization. What a shame they missed the opportunity to learn a little something about human nature.
Yes. It's not a comfortable movie to watch. Claustrophobic as well as disturbing. But it's worth watching.
