Why does Kurt Russell play the father?

Are we supposed to believe that father and son are identical twins?

reply

It is very common for sons to look like their fathers. People remind how I look like mine.
You must take after your mom.

No but that was just silly. I watched and thought the same thing. He died, then he was in the movie. Silly.

reply

Why hire an actor just to be in 1 scene without any dialog?

But I think they should've put a bit of makeup on Russell to where he looks very similar but not quite the same.

reply

My dad was an Ice Cream Man. No Shit.

reply

Why not? What's the problem with that? Who did you want to play the father-Robert Goulet?

reply

No. Brando. He did it for Superman. WHy not here?

"Atlas Shrugged- Part 2"- Coming in 2012! --The saga continues!

reply

Well they did make Dennis look a little bit different from Stephen, not a great deal but a little. Dennis had his hair combed down while Stephen had more of a spiky look and Dennis had a mustache.

reply

I don't see the problem in Russell playing both charecters.

Me neither. I didn't even realize it was him at first. Okay, call me stupid. He didn't credit himself as Dennis, just Stephen. And he even took a credit in the stunt department.

Brando was pretty large by that time (1991). . .

reply

Brando probably would've asked for $10 million for the scene.

The problem with it is that it's unrealistic, and it's a holdover from eons long past when they did that.

The reason a son can never look identical to a father is because they only share 50% of their DNA. You can't make two people look the same if they only have 50% of their genes in common. Unless it's a clone, which in the 1960s when Stephen was born would not have been possible.

reply

Lol I know a few people I grew up with who now that they are in their 30s are spitting images of their mother or father at their age. My cousin is my age and he looks exactly like my uncle in pictures from 20 years ago.

reply

I know quite a few people who are spitting images of their parents. My daughter looks like a clone of my wife. I also have a nephew who looks like a clone of my brother in law.

BTW: DNA doesn't always split evenly, ergo one parent can dominate. For example, there's the Dahm sisters, identical triplets, who have completely different DNA distributions.

Yes,that would've been awesome, however they may have used an actor twice so it would be one less paycheck.

reply

Because Ron hated him and wanted to see him die twice.

Yeah. I was watching it for the first time today. I was confused when I saw Kurt Russell, because I thought he already died in opening scene. Weird.

reply

It bothered me too. If they were going to do that, at least give the father Kurt a more distinctive appearance (beard? mustache? darker hair?)

Father and son looked the exact same, and because the scenes they first appear in are so close together, I bet everyone in the audience was confused too back back then.

reply

He had a moustache.
