This movie it one of the best movies I have ever seen, I have also read the book a few times over the past few years and still it always make me cry.... I guess even though you know what it's going to end with you still hope for the happy ending..
In the movie, her mother quickly picks up the ring that the young girl throws accross the room. In the book, there is no mention of her throwing or giving up the ring. However, in the book, the older brother, years later in Paris, steals from her.
Very true. I find it surprising, too, because when this came out, they made a big deal about the explicitness and made it like a Red Shoe Diary type movie. But, it isn't. It's really good, and it is a wonderful love story, but very sad. I always cry at this especially at the end when his black car is watching her leave on the ship. It's a great scene at the end, too. Definitely like a 3 Kleenex movie.
Yeah, I too get a tear in my eye whenever I see this, and I am a guy. Can you believe some people call this movie "porn??" That really annoys me, because this film is amazing.
It's because it's so realistic, the first sexual experience, where everything is so intense, where the outside world seems to disappear, and the only thing that matters is that moment when it happens, because you know afterwards, nothing will ever be quite the same again. This movie captured that feeling so intensely, that I was reminded of feelings that I hadn't thought about in years. I remembered the excitement of the moment, but I had forgotten that unexplainable feeling of sadness. Very weird. Anyway, the fact that this film succeeded in recreating this feeling, makes "L'Amant" a work of incomparable art, in my opinion.
I just cried after seeing this film for the second time just now and it still feels like the first time seeing. I only saw the las 35 minofit but it still make get grab my puff tissue with lotion of course. lol
