Awesome Movie!!

I saw this movie a while back when it was shown on tv and just love it! Once I started watching it I couldn't stop. And creepy as well as mysterious.

I just saw this recently on IFC, and went into it knowing nothing about it. I think that's the best way to see it--knowing too much would spoil it.

I'm surprised it's not more reknowned. I too thought it was pretty awesome. I don't know any other movie that could make knitting needles so frickin' scary!

It's hard to follow at times but I really liked this movie. I saw it on IFC a pretty long time ago and it's like nothing else I've ever seen. Very visionary.

I just finished watching it, having recorded it on the DVR from the IFC showing in June.

I had watched it in segments, backtracking each time I re-started it over the last two months (kept getting interrupted and not able to finish it altogether), and was finally able to see it start-to-finish tonight, so I think I've had a good, thorough showing of this film.

It completely fragments for me after we realize there is no slasher and that Lucas is the one whose vision is impaired, and with each subsequent removal of his glasses, his world distorts further. The first two-thirds is treated as a typical murder-mystery; we've all seen the plot where no one believes the child witness of a crime, and the killer is aware of this, and some sort of mano-a-mano confrontation must take place between child and killer. There is none of the surreality that occurs in the last third of the film. Having so much of the film's run time deal with this idea, real or imagined, of a killer at large, disposing of the killer in such a brutal and visceral way, left me hanging when the film abruptly switches to a child who seems very different that the Lucas we first meet. The "second" Lucas is unemotional and cold, whereas the "first" version of him is caring, attached and devoted to his mother, he loves the dog Toby, and is more open and social.

It has such creepy atmosphere, and the potential here was for a great psychological thriller, but I cannot reconcile the fragmenting of the plotline.
It's almost like there were two films going on here.

I don't believe you are supposed to reconcile it; Lucas' world was fragmented so it is supposed to feel like a parallel process along w/ Lucas' experience.

I watched this movie without knowing anything about it and just loved it. I got completely caught up in the boy's view of his world, his family situation, the neighborhood, etc. The atmosphere is amazing, very ordinary in a terribly creepy way, realistic and dreamlike both.

I don't know why it's not better-known.

Just saw it on IFC

Terrific and creepy, odd and unsettling. Could be a classic if more people knew about it. Started off very Giallo like and switched gears. Odd and rewarding horror melodrama.

I loved the first half, but really did not care at all for the second half.
