I have read all the posts in order to make sense of this movie but everyone is just beating around the bush. They are intimidated by the intellect of Egoyan that's why some people even say that they didn't understand the movie but they enjoyed it a lot :D. It was not some Chinese action movie which can be enjoyed without understanding. So guys don't be afraid, just say it....
THIS WAS A STUPID AND SICK MOVIE
No. It was a great and brilliant movie. Noah is an adjuster who takes advantage of clients, but keeps them in a hotel, sort of a symbolic "Noah's Ark", which might be trying to make a statement about religion. Hera, another religious name, is a film censor who decides what is right and isn't. Bubba and Mimi are twisted sexual degenerates, symbolic of good vs. evil in a religious sense, who adjust others' lives in a different way. Bubba burning down the house in the end is symbolic of hell and the adjuster that approaches Hera in the end is Noah getting his comeuppeance. Overall, a very symbolic and ingenious film.
shareAnd that is exactly why this is a very pretentious film. Using popular mythology in contemporary settings is just a cheap trick for lazy filmmakers. Come on admit it, in the end Egoyan had nothing to say what so ever about anything he's supposedly set out to say! At best it's some sort of attempted David Lynch fantasy about uh... people in the today's society and uh... relationships and stuff....
