Didn't they use to pop in and out of lockers???
www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?6381050&1 <<<< @ bring back old nick shows like this

reply

All I remember is, that it was sorta black and white, and some kid got thrown into a basketball hoop. I always wondered what this show was called! I knew there was a show with the word "fresh" in it.

reply

Damndest thing, I also vaguely remember this show, but only vaguely.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

they popped out of lockers on "You can't do that on television."

reply

Actually, for one of the Halloween promos they had the principal pop out of the locker.

reply

I barely remember this but not enough to really add anything. Gosh I wish they would start a network with all these old shows!

reply

---I barely remember this but not enough to really add anything. Gosh I wish they would start a network with all these old shows!---

same here i cant remeber this show but im sure i know it if i see it

reply

how about that....I am completely in the same boat. That's why I came here looking. I mean, we all know pete and pete, and salute your shorts, etc. And the name welcome freshman is very familiar, and even the name mr. lippman, but I have zero clues about what constituted the show.

I wonder if it was truly that forgettable, or if we're all just missing out on a gem. Cause I thought I remembered all their old shows.

reply

i remember the halloween promos better than the show, prolly because they were played even after it was cancelled

reply

WOW Thats the ONLY thing I remember about this show. I feel nostalgic.

reply

I was looking at the Salute Your Shorts IMDB site and saw the title Welcome Freshmen.. and it sounded so familar... then I came to the site and the name Mr. Lippman sounds so familar... but i abosloutely cannot remember what it's about.. or the people.. but i know i saw it. That's crazy

reply

crazy indeed. It's like we all know, but don't know what this show is all about.

I wonder what nick's hold up is in releasing more of their shows on dvd. I submit that if knightrider can be on dvd, then so can welcome freshman

reply

ahhhh so weird!! FOREVER I wanted to know what this show was that I had these vague memories of... and then my boyfriend and I were discussing old tv shows we watched when we were kids and he mentioned this one and I was like OMG that must it! and I was asking questions about it, but he too could barely remember anything. I remember everything else so clear as if I just watched it yesterday, but this show I know nothing about!!! Just unclear images of kids sitting in a classroom setting. Weird. I wish there were some screen shots of the actual tv show.

reply

IT lasted for about 2 years. IT was about these teenage kids going through high school and they would all hang out by a fountain I think. It had funny story lines. That's what I remember. I also remember they changed the cast. Also, the black kid, Kevin, I remember he used to wear ties to school and had a crush on Miss Topaz, the english teacher. Mr. lippman, was this eccentric school principal. Merv, was a nerd, whom his friends liked but was also funny cause things would always go wrong for him. That's all I can recall so far. How old are you now?

I thought I read somewhere that Howie from the Backstreet Boys played the Safety Turtle (which is just about the only thing I remember from the show...)

Anyways, I remember the Safety Turtle would always try to teach safety, but then got hurt himself, like getting electrocuted or having something fall on top of him.

reply

I first searched for 'Hawthorne High' since I thought that really was the title, and realized I wasnt going to get any luck, then found a site about pop culture and finally came across 'Welcome Freshman' that somehow hinted a nostalgic vibe... success. Along with Salute Your Shorts, Doug, Rocko's, and I think one about a dude ranch with that chick thats now married to Ben Stiller, this and many other shows really kept things "safe" [softy-tv] but still made me laugh while doing so. All I can really remember is one episode with a bunch of smoke everywhere in a cafeteria like a science experiment gone wrong, all too vauge to describe with the least sense. Its weird, maybe becuase it didnt get rotated as much as Salute did that most people only slightly remember the show at all, but its still something simple I'd smoke a fat blunt to. Memories

reply

do you smoke? The last line of your post makes absolutely no sense. I think You are referring to Season 1 with Merv, he was the weird one doing scientific experiments. remember, Kevin, The black kid, he would always wear ties to public school. If you want to make a show last don't have one of your characters wear a tie to public school.

reply

Elevate your comprehension and I'm sure with a lil luck you'll understand. A fourth grade education wouldn't hurt either. Also, yes, I am indeed a midnight toker, hold the applause. Appreciate the attempts to jog my memory but I'm without a doubt clueless, all I remember is what I just described as well as a dude on a skateboard in the hall, and a motley array of bright hues that seemed to make up the entire school, like SBTB.

reply

this is weird - this is the only part of the show i remember too. the smoke came from a science experiment that blew up...some nerdy kid walked out of the room where the explosion happened, and his clothes were all ripped up. Then some "cool, popular" kid complimented the nerdy kid on his expertly ripped jeans...gnarly

reply

I'm on the same boat as the rest of you all. Somehow, I always remember titles of shows, and every now and then I would think of this show and its theme song (well bits and pieces of the theme song). I remembered that I liked it, but I didn't exactly remember what it was about. I wished they showed the old Nick shows :( Well, except for Roundhouse. I hated that show.

reply

amen, roundhouse can go to hell

reply

I never liked roundhouse especially that blond kid with the baggy pants, the earrings, etc.

reply

I remember this show having a dude dressed up as the girls PE teacher named Coach Roach but I can't find that in the credits. Was it this show or something else?

reply

to LOCOTE, you are a rude imbecile. You must be on drugs. you last post once again makes absolutely no sense. YOU are too young to remember the show. I don't know why you even post here. And for the record, even a 4th grade education didn't do you any good.

reply

Wow, It's nice to know SOME people remember this show! Everyone seems to forget about it, I loved it. My fav ep is when they eat that yougurt at school and get those weird rashes around their lips and get quarentined. That was hilarious. The tought guy asks to sleep with the stuffed animal.

-Heath Ledger was robbed-
"Mr. Burgandy, you have a MASSIVE erection!"

reply

I remember this show. It came on when I started my puberty years, 7th grade through 9th grade. I did not like the last season. Jocelyn steiner was so ugly. Remember the last season, she wore the ugly bell bottoms and looked like a flowerchild. It grossed me out. and remember Kevin wore ties to public school. What did he have to prove. AFter all, he never went to an IV league school.

reply

I use 2 love this show. I remember Merv always walking around w/his video camera doing Merv-u-mentaries. & Kushman was always the gross dude passing gas & stuff & the others would yell at him. I remember 1 episode that talked about how sandwiches got their name from the Earl of Sandwich. & another where I think Alex was eating pork rinds & 1 of the guys tell her it's made from pig skins like footballs & she spits it out & says "I just had fried football in my mouth?!"

reply

Is this the show where they would go have a 'history' lesson and they would go back in time?

reply

yeah the science projects in the 18th century. they have like a little reverie thing going. I remember that. I'm surprised someone else remembers that episode, that was when Merv was on the show. They got rid of Merv and the blond guy who burped alot on next season. How many seasons did this show run for.

reply

Hmmm.. I can't remember this show for anything. I'm gonna have to Youtube it. lol

reply

I have been looking for the theme song on mp3 for soo long.
It was a great theme song. Kinda garage trash punk rock. Very cool.

MYSTERY MEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ starships-1 For someone who insults another's intelligence based on a prediliction for marijuana a fondness for good child/teen-hood shows, you sure are stupid yourself. It's "ivy" league, not "IV". "IV" stands for intravenous. Go read a book. And Locote, the show you're remembering was called "Hey Dude", and the girl who played Melody was the cousin in "The Wedding Singer". By the by, I don't remember too much about this show myself, it was on so briefly; I do, however, remember that I liked it. Every once and a while I'll get a flash of what a certain set looked like. I do remember that one of the guys failed his freshman year. When I finally got to high school, I was extremely disappointed, and although I didn't know why at the time, I have a good idea now.

what the hell are you talking about

reply

i'll tell you what i remember from this show.
there was always a short where a blinfolded kid in front of a firing squad would say something random.
There was always a cafeteria short where they would be served disguisting food.
And I remember an episode where a guy and girl were dating and she was a vegetarian and so was her hippie dad and he ate at her house and pretended to be a vegetarian too, but he was disguisted by what they ate.

does that sound familiar at all?

reply

Wasn't there an episode where Lisa Lisa came to the school to sing her big hit song? I remember something like that...maybe it wasn't Lisa Lisa, but it was that lame "do-do-do-do-do-doodoodoodoo" song from around 91-92.

(emphasis mine)

That's what I'm talking about, Jack. I just though it was rather nonsensical for you to declare someone stupid (with such malice, might I add) when you made such a blunder, yourself. I mean, come on. "IV" league? Have you ever read a book?

"I'm an expert on tits. Tits and peanut butter."

reply

it's called a misspelling you bitch. You pointing that out doesn't make me feel less. Since I'm a pharmacy intern and making a hell of alot more money that you can ever make in a lifetime.

reply

Dude, you capitalized it. That wasn't a misspelling, it was an all-out error. I pointed it out to highlight the stupidity of your comment to Locote. And a pharmacy intern, making more money than I ever could in a lifetime? Don't make me laugh; if you get any money at all, it's probably not even enough to gas up your car. The mere fact that you pulled the income card shows that you are an immature, unintelligent prick. You're making me laugh, and not in a "God, that's so funny" kind of way, but in a "God, isn't he so pathetic" kind of way. Vacate now, before you make a bigger @ss of youself.

"I'm an expert on tits. Tits and peanut butter."

reply

when I become a licensed pharmacist, it will be more than what you can bequeath to posterity. Really you should stick your nose out of other people's business. okay, snoopy.

reply

And again I laugh, because you can only pull the income card, which don't mean a thing to me. You sad, sad little person. To think you actually expected to have a relatively closed conversation on a message board. Good golly, you must be surprised!

"I'm an expert on tits. Tits and peanut butter."

reply

what a comeback. Your retorts mean nothing to me. I can also pull out the intelligence card. I bet your IQ is no greater than my shoe size. and for the record, don't mean a thing, is not grammatically correct. Or did they teach you that in school?

reply

If they mean nothing to you, then why do you keep replying?

"I'm an expert on tits. Tits and peanut butter."

reply

because I'm not going to let a little bitch like you try to tell me off. YOu really need to clean that nose of yours.

reply

lol. i love you guys.

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! My favorite scene was in one of the early episodes when Alex was helping Tara with her makeup. Tara "Are you sure this wasn’t tested on animals" Alex "Yup it says right here defiantly not tested on cute little bunnies with wrinkly noses." Or the episode when Walter wanted to be the big man on campus so he came into the lunchroom on his bicycle since the cool guy rode his motorcycle to lunch. LOL I think that Nick should either show these shows in reruns late at night, or make a channel dedicated to them. I am 27 years old and do not feel that any shows these days equal the humor and dedicated that these shows did. Welcome Freshman, RoundHouse, Clarissa Explains It All, Space Cases, Ren & Stimpy, Ahhh Real Monsters, Are You Afraid Of The Dark, You Can't Do That On Television, Salute Your Shorts, Pete And Pete, Doug, Roco's Modern Life, GUTS, Wild & Crazy Kids. These are just some of the shows that need to come back.

reply

if only they would put these shows on DVD. Who cares if they show it on TV, if they put it on DVD nickelodeon will go out of business. how do you remember quotes from WElcome freshmen. I agree, I enjoyed the earlier season of Welcome Freshmen when they had Walter and Merv. After that, it got stupid, really stupid.

reply

I can remember some of the characters. Mostly the principal (who was a bald guy named Mr. Lipman or something like that) and the two girls. One girl was really pretty with dirty blonde hair and the other girl was shorter and in my opinion hotter and she had black hair. Oh and i do remember a clutz by the name of Walter to. The only episode I remember of this show was when Walter was taken to student court because he was accused of defacing the huge new painting of Mr. Lipman. The black haired girl was his PI and student attourney in student court. In the end they found out that he dropped his papers and had a very hard time arranging them back in the right order because they didn't have page numbers. While that was happening (and he was his headphones on loud so he couldn't hear anything else) and while his back was turned, random students and even a few teachers and faculty defaced Mr. Lipman's painting.

Hopefully that episode will ring a bell for ya.

Wow, I can't believe I remember that much of a Disney Channel or Nickelodeon show from when I was a kid. But then again, there are many shows where I remember parts if not most of at least one episode.

reply

how old are you today? And there were 2 blond girls, one that they kept on the show throughout its duration and one that disappered from the show after only 1 season. Kevin, the black kid, was there. Walter, did he have blond hair. Merv, disappered after season 1 as well. MErv, was the dude who was so much into science I think but a funny kid.

reply

I am as of now 23 years old

reply

so which characters are talking about. All the white people had blond hair and there was one black kid. What dark haired person are you talking about?

reply

I think the dark haired person I was referring to was a girl named Erin.

reply

she had blond hair, did she wear bellbottoms or flare pants. You know the kind of pants girls your age wear.

reply

Just like you guys, I barely remember this show. I just happened to run across the name on a Myspace bulletin, and it clicked. I was only 5 when the show came out. All I can remember is the scenes were mostly based in the school hallway. I remember an episode where one of the girls had braces, and was having a guy over and was petrified because she had braces and what would happen if she kissed him, and he ended up having braces also. The only other episode I remember is one of the kids having a helmet or something that they could put on to know what everyone is thinking. I think that's how it went but I'm not 100% sure. I'm surprised I could remember that much from being 5 years old. I wish they had a Nickelodeon channel dedicated to those classic 90's sitcoms. I'm sure there are plenty of people that could petition to Nick to get them back on TV... or atleast released to a DVD box set.

reply

Other than Kevin, the only black kid on the show. Do you remember any kids with Dark hair.

reply

im 18 and i barely remember this show... what year was it cancelled?

reply

It wasn't around when you were born or growing up.

reply

all i've got for memories, to add to the collective here, is that there's one episode where walter, the resident sleepy-eyed dimwit, had to take a driver's test, and something, most likely bad, happened to his dad's car. i just remember a scene on the road, with a bad green screen background, involving his dad. i also recall merv's "thing" which had a title - when he took his camera around and filmed things in 'first person'. it was really funny. well, funny-ish. i think i remember the theme song, too, and i'm PRETTY sure it was just tons of guitar riffs all over the place, no real "song". OH and as far as 'scenes' go, they would shoot one at the mall, kind of a grouping of benches in the center walkway of what appeared to be a busy mall. ah, being an 'after school freshman'. come to think of it, that show did a very poor job for readying me for high school. it's nothing LIKE that!

reply

I don't recall there being any mall scenes. What I do remember, however, is that most of scenes were at the high school. ARe you confusing this show with fifteen which also aired around the same time as this one.

reply

Ok i just happen to be high and remembered these shows...the only way we can get to see these shows again is to write letters to nickalodeon or email them.....shows like hey dude, welcome freshman, clarissa...was the essence of our childhood..im 22 and my only good childhood memories was watching nickalodeon....we need these shows like old people need nick at nite

reply

hey 29 is not that old, LOL. I agree how do we organize a petition.

reply

I remember exactly one line from this show, barring the title..
They were standing in the hallway and one of the boys had a crush on a girl in a different grade.. She was kissing her boyfriend..
He turned to one of his friends and said "Was that kiss serious?"
And his friend said "I dunno, but he's chewing her gum now."

reply

wow what a memory to remember one silly little line like that.

reply

Oh man, I used to love this show. This was one of my favorite shows. I used to record it, as I did with a lot of tv shows, so I could go outside and watch them later. I might still have some of these episodes on tape...I have to go look.

My favorite episode is when Manny was trying to impress that girl and he dressed up "hip hop" and his hat was covering his eyes. He walks into the cafeteria and says "I'm bad, I'm cool, I know I'm the man!" and runs into a chair and falls over cause he couldn't see. Man that moment was classic. He was my favorite character actually, he always got the bad end of the deal (the bully episode, the hey barn dance episodes, etc..). Also, someone mentioned something about a kid stuck in a basketball hoop, that was Manny, it wasn't a trashcan, it was a basketball hoop and it was during the opening credits. I also remember a running gag with Walter was that he always had *beep* (sp?) or something in his pockets from the cafeteria.

I wish they would release this on DVD, or someone would upload this onto a torrent. This show was classic. This came on around the era of Salute your Shorts, Roundhouse, The Tommorrow People, Hey Dude, just to name a few.

reply

i loved THIS SHOW LOL I WAS BORN IN 88 AND I LOVED IT I NEVER KNEW THE NAME I JUST REMEMBER LAUGHING FROM IT LOL
