Complete series on Dutch DVD

The complete TV series of Stephen King's Golden Years was issued in Holland by Video Film Express in 1999 as a 2-DVD set. It has recently been replaced by the edited 4-hour cut by Paramount in Holland but you should still be able to find the Video Film Express release through Dutch retailers and from sellers on eBay.

They are formatted for European PAL TV sets but it is encoded for all regions (despite the presence of the Region 2 logo on this set). They have edited out the end credits for the first six episodes but they are present on the final seventh episode.

The first episode is 1 1/2 hours long while the following episodes are approx 45 minutes long each with an exact playing time of 360:26. It is presented in 2.0 dual mono. The episodes are dived onto 2 dual-layer discs with 3 episodes on the first and 4 on the second. There's Dutch subtitles but they can be turned off through the remote.

Also check out eBay seller brrwarenhuis, that's where I bought mine.

if you want to simplify things, there is a Canadian CBS-TV DVD release, of Golden years, Langoliers, and the Stand, packaged together.

Except for the fact that the title you refer to has only the shortened cut of the series and not the full 6-hour version.

Thanks for the information.

Which ending does it use? The one where his wife dies or the "fake one" where they disappear together ?

I recorded the series off UK TV when it was repeated, but they broadcast the final episode with the rushed ending. I want to see the original cliffhanger ending.

The fake one unfortunately. Guess I have to transfer my VHS tape to DVD or find the laserdisc edition.
At least this DVD beats the Swedish 3-hour cut of it...

Pity. Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate it.

I know that elusive ending is out there somewhere, I'll track it down yet. :)
