NetFlix Has The Almost Uncut Miniseries Version On Streaming

Man, was I ever excited when I saw that NetFlix had this up in its apparently original airing, with 7 separate episodes (the first episode being a 90 minute feature length double episode).

First off, there are a TON of things in the miniseries version that are absent from the more readily available VHS and DVD versions. There's just way more scenes and way more stuff going on. My favorite "new" scene that I had never seen before was Terry and the gang stealing a cop car when they stumble upon an accident on the side of the road. We also get a flashback to Jude and Terry when they were partners and a weird scene where Toddhunter tries to smuggle some mice out of the plant.

But the big disappointment for me was that NetFlix STILL doesn't show the original ending that I've always wanted to see. Nope, it's the same old crappy "Harlan and Gina disappear into a ball of green light for no reason and Terry shoots Andrews and runs off happily with Louis" ending that the video and DVD had. God damn it, anyway, I REALLY wanna see how the series originally "ended" with that inconclusive ending. Where can I find this?

Aside from that, I've always had a soft spot for this, but I think watching it divided into episodes plays MUCH better than the super-long movie version I've always been accustomed to watching. As a series, it just has a better flow and a more compelling use of building tension and climaxes, as opposed to that movie version that just feels really really long.

Check Youtube, saw the original ending there several months ago. The new release of SKGY is supposed to have the original ending, but yes, it's the edited version.

I am still missing one scene, which I remember from waaay back when it was aired on TV: the altercations between Dr. Todhunter and the technician/delivery man. At first the technician makes the mistake of handing over the delivery before getting Dr. Todhunter to sign off for it: Todhunter raves that he hasn't the time for such nonsense, suggesting that the technician is getting in the way of scientific endeavour with his red tape, and he slams the door on him. When it turns out that he has been sent the wrong part, he needs the technician to make another delivery, and this time the technician takes his sweet time getting the proper signatures -- in triplicates.

For me it was one of the more memorable scenes, but it was missing from the DVDs -- and, it seems, from Netflix as well.

I just recently watched the series on Netflix and the version they have has those scenes. I particularly like the "punchline"...the tech, after making Toddhunter sign all of the other release forms, makes him sign one for Toddhunter's "personal copy". lol Then, of course, the newest cable the tech brings still doesn't match so Toddhunter has to mix-and-match with the other cables the tech had previously brought. lol

One day men will look back and say that I gave birth to the twentieth century.
