Got here before me with the good news. DeepdiscountDVD has it up as well for a pretty good price plus free shipping.

So the BBC eventually gave in to the requests of fans? How nice of them :)

reply

But when will it be available in Europe and the United Kingdom (Region 2) i.e. Amazon.co.uk
Best Wishes, Rhodri

reply

Yes, I'd love to see this released in the UK. I still have a copy of it somewhere in storage on Betamax tape, but it'll be more than 20 years old so the tape will be too degraded by now I suspect... oh, and not having anything to play it on doesn't help either!

reply

Got mine today but it states that the music has been altered. Wonderful. Hopefully, when (or if) it's released in Region 2 it'll be intact.

reply

Care to elaborate on that? Is the theme music the same?

reply

The alterations to the music are limited to the Beatles recordings that had been used in the original broadcast version. Since these recordings are reputedly difficult to license for video, I would not expect the Region 2 (or any region's) release to include them.

Fantastic, our order is in, will post when we have it.

Yippeee!

I remember watching this series when it was first shown on PBS back in '92. I was in the fifth grade at the time and was riveted to every episode. My fifth grade teacher also liked it and we'd talk after class about our favorite parts of the latest episode we'd seen. My class-mates wondered what show we were so excited about.

Love the scene where the KGB and CIA are running around the English country-side in Limos with direct satellite car-phone link-ups with Yasenovo and Langley respectively, while MI-5 are having to stop by the side of the road to use pay-phones - in their own country!
Granted, this was alot funner back in 1991 when the comparitive lack of cell-phones then made the gag seem remotely possible. Still, a great series and I'm glad its on DVD at long last.

"Sleepers - The Complete Series" has just been released in Australia for A$29.95

It is a PAL Format ALL Region DVD & was released in Australia by Madman Entertainment. It is suitable for playback on all PAL compatible equipment (UK, Europe, as well as Australia, New Zealand & Oceania) but not NTSC equipment unless it plays both formats.

Details (& ordering) may be found here:

A good alternative for UK fans who cannot find it available at amazon.co.uk

Cheers & beers

et tu, Bruté?

Locked my wire coat-hanger in the car - good thing that I always carry spare keys in my pocket :)

I just bought it from Amazon (US). Nice to see it again! The version I got was region 1, NTSC, from Acorn Media -- for other versions, YMMV.

Good quality video, as far as I could tell. The audio could have been a little better; there were some spots I had to rewind and replay to get what the actors were saying. Most of these occurred when background noise got too loud relative to the people who were speaking, which makes me wonder if someone tried to remix the audio and didn't do such a great job at it. To be clear, that was an occasional annoyance, not a chronic problem. BTW, I don't have any sort of hearing problem, and I'm used to British accents.

Other features that we normally associate with DVD releases were sorely lacking. No closed captioning; no alternate language tracks; no deleted scenes; no commentaries; etc. There were brief filmographies of a few of the actors, but we've already got IMDB for that.

Anyway, I certainly don't regret the purchase. Just be aware that you get the series itself, and that's it.
