Tony and the Opticians

Been rewatching MBB lately after picking up the box set cheap - it still amuses!

Anyway in one episode, Tony visits the opticians and it reminded me of something that always surprised me - ie that he doesn't try to hit it off with the woman that works there despite Tony "having a bit of a reputation" as Gary put it once, and the woman flirting with him too. Just seemed a bit out of character and you can't say it was because of Deborah, because a couple of episodes later he was dating lots of other women.

I think Tony was feeling way too self-conscious at that moment, the thought of flirting never even crossed his mind.
He's terrified of how people will perceive him as a "speccy", and you see throughout that episode that when it comes to wearing glasses he loses all of his confidence. So without his self-confidence he's not going to attempting flirting with the optician.
Also, IIRC, the optician herself isn't even wearing glasses, so he's even more likely to feel inadequate around her.
