Lily and Forrest should've hooked up

I wanted them to get together.

Well, that wasn't going to happen in that time and place. (grin) But along those lines the last few episodes had an intriguing storyline going between Nathan and Claudia. They were attracted to each other. I've often wondered if renewed for another year, IFA would have had them attending the same college, and their relationship growing?

Again, time and place argue against it. And a white man dating a black woman was the rarest of rarities. If I flash forward from that time to 1971 at the University of Iowa I can say it did not work out well then for me. I dated a young woman from one of my classes and we caught hell. Ultimately we did not handle it well, probably not mature enough. A shame, she was one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure to know. In the 1990s it was much easier, with a much happier ending.

Good of you to post here, chante 04. This past weekend was noteworthy. I was able to video tape the one remaining episode I did not have. I've refused to show my wife my IFA tapes until I had the set complete. (If she doesn't like it, I may cry)

take care,

I always liked Nathan and Claudia together. It was kind of sad when he was taking her home on that motorcycle and the cop came.

It may have been the first time Nathan had really thought of a black person as "real people" He obviously was intrigued by Claudia. When they were stopped by the cop Claudia was mad she had accepted the ride, she knew better. Nathan's reaction was more complex. He did not think he had done anything wrong. But he had to realize he was sort of violating a cultural taboo. Maybe for the first time he realized there might be something wrong with the culture he grew up in.

It would have been interesting to watch him continue to struggle to come to grips with this. Just as his father was forced to struggle with segregation in his legal duties and perhaps reluctantly seeing how morally wrong it was. In the pilot episode when he interviewed Lilly for housekeeper he never asked any questions about her family. I don't think he and Lilly ever became friends but he certainly came to see her as a strong, even noble person. We will never know if the Nathan / Claudia story line would have been developed in a third season. I hoped it would but I suspect my motives were not pure. I thought Claudia was hot and it sort of peripherally touched on themes in my personal life

When I first heard IFA was going to be one TV, I groaned. Figured it was going to be crap. I sure changed my mind on seeing the pilot and the first few episodes. Regina Taylor had a lot to do with it in her role. She was great.

I certainly wish the show would come out in a DVD boxed set. I spent some time trying to discover who I could write to, to lobby for this. I don't think it will ever happen even though it should. Eventually I may transfer my vhs tapes to DVD to preserve them. It would be a shame to lose them. I would like to show them to my son someday when he is older, he is almost 5 now. I suppose by then they will seen hopelessly quaint, old school, irrelevant...

The show originally aired like in 1991. I was only 5 then. The first time I heard about this show was 3 years ago.I saw a couple of episodes on TV1.

Glad you discovered IFA. I think it holds up well with time.

I wish I could see all of the episodes. :)

Do you still have access to cable or satellite? American Life channel is showing IFA episodes on Sunday night. Each show is shown twice each Sunday evening. I know the second show is at midnight, eastern time... so I get it at 11pm here in the Mid West. I can't remember the time for the first showing, either 9 or 8 Eastern Time... I think it is 9pm. That is how I was able to videotape the four episodes I did not have. They run them in the correct sequence.

Yes I have cable.

Here the channel carrying IFA is part of the digital package, not the basic cable offering.

N'Bushe Wright was the real deal back then no bout adoubt it! I feel you on those unpure motives and respect you to the utmost for saying so! Seriously, though this was a great show. I taped all the shows when it was running on TVOne a couple of summers ago. It's preserved in full except for a couple of shows where intermittent rain and storms messed with my picture on a couple of days.
