CLOTHING STYLES

I so enjoyed the clothing in this series. Beautiful, tasteful and true design.

They were gorgeous. I couldn't get enough of them.
In fact, I liked this series SO much that I even cut a visit to Venice short, so that I could be at home in time for the next episode...
(It wasn't my first or last visit to Venice, so it's not THAT terrible. ;))

I never did that with any other series.

georgous, and the workmanship on it! so much details and finishing touches, and embroideries. That must have taken quite a few hours of workmanship, no wonder clothes were expansive then. But so beautiful and much better quality than today's clothes. I think a dress from the house of elliot could have been easily handed down from mother to daughter and still don't have a scratch on them.

When I was on holiday in London, in 1992, The costumes were on exhibit in the Victoria and Albert. I have never seen such exquisite garments in my life, and still remember dashing out to purchase a sketch pad and pencils...

It was a wonderful and cherished memory for me.

I adored the fashions in this series and many others of the time. I have been a fashionista since a child helping my mom design and make my clothes. She was trained as a dressmaker and could maker her own patterns and change some teaching me all about it. I wish I still had some of the things we made. It got much cheaper to buy clothes and as she aged she lost interest in it and so did I. I still love fashion and if I could afford it I would design my own and have them made. I saw the HoE when it originally came on Masterpiece theater and am planning on rewatching it again. the Edwardian era was my favorite time period.

For lovely costumes don't miss "Cherie" set in Beaux Art Paris around the turn of the 20th century. Michelle Pfeiffer is in it and wears the most divine costumes. I wish they had been mentioned for an award for the designs unless they were original/

The House of Eliott was never on Masterpiece Theatre. It was shown in the US on A&E Network. That was the era when A&E had an exclusive contract with BBC or first refusal on US tv rights of all drama made by the BBC.
