How the hell did this show not win any Emmys?

I know it won a Golden Globe but I think it should've won an Emmy or 2 for Best Comedy or Lead Actor/Actress. Home Improvement was the number one sitcom on TV in 1993-1994.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate Seinfeld and Frasier and Friends which were the top 3 sitcoms of the 90s (Roseanne was number 1 early in it's run) but there were others that should've won awards too, like this one or even The Nanny. Fran Drescher lost to JLD at the 1996 Emmy Awards for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy. I honestly think Fran should've won because thats when The Nanny was at it's peak and she was channeling some Lucille Ball-esque humor. Family Matters should've been nominated too but as hysterical as that show is, it was pretty goofy and out there with Steve Urkel's inventions becoming more and more numerous and far fetched as the series progressed. He built a TIME MACHINE in one of the last seasons. No wonder ABC cancelled it after 8 seasons. It improved in season 9 when CBS picked it up for it's final season.

But I guess just because a sitcom becomes number 1 in the ratings doesn't make it Emmy worthy?

I just saw a couple episodes on TV the other and I haven't seen it years...probably since high school (I graduated in the mid 00s)....but man, I laughed through most of the episodes.

I don't know if I forgot how great it was, or if my sense of humor changed as I got older...probably both. But I really enjoyed it!

It was a beloved but formulaic family sitcom. It garnered big ratings but was never a critical darling so thats why it never got any Emmy love.

Lowest common denominator. They don’t give awards for that.

Tim Allen did at least win a Golden Globe for it though.
