OFFICIAL European DVDs

The first 2 episodes have been released in Italy by Medusa (in English and Italian), and the third one will be available in October. 2 DVDs for each episode.

A French COMPLETE boxed series ("La caverne de la rose d'or") will be released by Freedolphin early 2008 - no idea in what language though, but they promise unreleased bonus material. Should be 40€ a box (according to a rumour on French forums)

So NO further need for bootleg releases, I’d say (a region-free DVD player will do)!

Have you actually seen the Italian releases? Because I once ordered another Italian Lamberto Bava fantasy film (Sorellina). On the dvd box it said it had both the Italian and English version, but it turned out to be only the Italian one. Apart from the xploitedcinema website you mention, I can't find any site that says the Fantaghiro release has also the English version. I'm not fully convinced that the information on the xploitedcinema site is right because it also says it's widescreen but as far as I know the Fantaghiro films were made for television before there was any widescreen tv programs.

Good news! I bought this new Italian release of Fantaghiro 2 and just watched it. It really has both the English and Italian language. Italian subtitles are removable. It's the complete 3 hour version on two DVD's. No scenes are missing. Screen quality is great, sound volume is a bit low but of good quality. Screen is 4:3, not widescreen (remember it was made for television in the early nineties, so there was no widescreen tv then). Fantagiro 1 and 3 should also have been released in this series and part 4 should follow november of this year.

And some bad news again. After I bought Fantaghiro 2, I now bought 1 and 3. Fantaghiro 1 has both the English and Italian language like part 2, but part 3 is only in Italian. I'm very disappointed! I don't know why they omitted the English. Why isn't it possible to release the complete series in English or at least make one choice for the whole series so the customer knows what he's up to!

reply

where did u get the dvd from? i've been looking for this for like forever and could never find 1 in english.

reply

I bought 2 dvds from www.dvd.it and one from an Ebay dealer. www.dvd.it has very high shipping costs though, especially when you buy only one dvd.

I just ordered Fantaghiro 4 from another Ebay dealer. It should have both the English and Italian version again. But I believe Fantaghiro 5 is only in Italian. I will leave a post again when I'm sure about this.

i own all the italian releases, only the first second and fourth movies have english. i bought mine at www.ibs.it they ship to everywhere...

reply

so, do the italian dvd releases contain bonus material? if yes, what kind of extra stuff?

reply

DVD 1 - 2 and 4 have both languages (English and Italian), DVD 3 and 5 have only Italian language.
The extra stuff contains: a 5 parts documentary, 5 parts interviews to Bava, Nielsen, Davanzati etc etc and some specials about the visual effects, the music score etc

I also have episode 3 in English because I recorded it on Netherlands TV some years ago.

reply

Are there English subtitles on the special features?

Does anyone know if the French or German DVDs have English subtitles? Amazon says they don't, but they've been wrong before.

I am anxiously awaiting the reunion between Michael K. and Tim B.

reply

The German releases are only in German languages and there are no subtitles.

reply

There's now a German Blu-ray out containing all Episodes in both English and German. The image is in 1080i.

reply

Where did you find that the Blu-rays are in English too? Amazon.de only mentions German and the company that released it, Koch Media, too.
