POp Larkins affairs

The show seemed to imply but not exactly show whether or not Pop Larkin had affairs, he seems very close to Angela (Kika Mryless) for instance, Wiki claims he has his "sweethearts" which Ma knows about.

Was Larkin a cheat? in the romantic sense I mean?

reply

Pop only ever kissed other women and seeing as him and Ma are not married she didn't mind.

reply

It was a little game, and Ma was well aware and even complicit. I agree he never, in any case, had full blown affairs . The fact that they were not legally married, is perfectly irrelevant.

reply

Ma knew that Pop was kissing and cuddling other woman, so I wouldn't call him a cheat. Ma also knew that Pop's heart was irrevocably hers, which it was. Pop was just so full of life, he couldn't help but share a little of it.

Although, I do think that Angela was different and he may have been tempted a bit more than he should have been.

reply

I think both Pop and Ma had a limit and both knew he would stick to it.
I wouldn't describe them as afairs he has some kissing and gentle petting with Edith and Angela
The only person who invites Pop to go further is Corrine Perigo and she is given short shrift by pop when it's quite clear "it's on a plate" for him if he wants.

He never seems to go beyond kissing and a bit of mild groping. Whether it is right for him to go around arousing other women when he is married is another matter, and is perhaps debatable. One of the things they changed from the books is in When the Greenwoods laugh. When he is going out in a boat with the married woman who sues him for assault, in the Tv series he is made to seem entirely innocent, but in the book he has actually groped her, assuming she would be as receptive as the other women he has tried it on.
