Where was the show set

I know the Larkins home was shot on location in PLuckley in Kent (wiki) but where were the Larkins actually MEANT to live.

They come across as real country folk but I read on Wiki they actually came from Sidcup, which is very much South East London these days, albeit further out.

Anyone know?

Pop was born in Sidcup but moved to Kent as a young man. He explains this in one of the episodes. I think maybe the last one.

I believe the nearest big town is Ashford, Kent.

Sidcup IS in Kent.

In the episode where he is hiding from the tax inspector and Charlie confronts him about his tax evasion he gives charlie a speech about Kent being the garden of England and that if farmers didn't farm rich people wouldn't have their strawberries. Basically reassuring Charlie that no one would dare anger a farmer.

So there you go, Kent. It explains how simple it'd be to hop on a ferry to France.
