Why was Season 5 so short?

I know many series are cancelled after only a few episodes, but if you are renewed for a fifth season, you should get a full, or at least half season. Why are there so few episodes?

The show wasn't actually renewed for a 5th season. After it was cancelled at the end of the 4th season, a few movies were made and shown during what would've been the 5th season.
