Dangerous Liaisons

I have just watched the special features on the 'Clarissa' DVD and it keeps on going on about how this is a story which 'mirrors' Dangerous Liaisons.

I hate to be pendantic but Clarissa (written in 1748) predates Dangerous Liaisons (written in 1782). In fact the book Clarissa in mentioned in Dangerous Liaisons (Madame De Tourvel is reading Clarissa). Therefore it would be a better tagline saying that it was the inspiration for Laclos.

Maybe I'm thinking about another book, but I thought Dangerous Liaisons was a roman a clef...that it was a real life scandal?
