A lot of hate for the later episodes

There seems to be a lot of hate for the later series of 2point4 Children, mainly due to the kids having grown up and the inclusion of the overacting little annoyance, Declan. I thikn it's a bit unfair, however, because not only was Declan not seen that much, but some of the best episodes are from later in the show's run. I LOVE the episode about the Drool Bar from the 7th series, as well as the one where Bill throws away Ben's lucky pants and he forces the whole family to do the same thing every Saturday to ensure his team stay on a winning streak.

The last special, Two Before the Mast, where they go on the cruise is also great, and so are the final series eps where Ben tries to tire out Jenny's new boyfriend and the one where Bill and Rona smuggle a sheep and a fox across the Channel! Also love the last episode where Tina ruins the Millennium for everyone!

Basically, anything without Declan was still gold.

I agree with you been re watching the later episodes aswell and there was still alot of potential there. If only Gary hadn't got cancer who knows they may still have been making episodes or at least one off specials :(

My fave episode from the later series' is definetly the drool bar episode. I wasn't that overly keen on "Malcolm X" though when Bill went up to Scotland with that sleazy Malcolm.

I agree, I'd love to see the odd christmas special if only Gary was still around. I'd take a once-a-year special over any episode of the nauseating My Family any day of the week! The only problem I see is that with Jenny and David grown up, Declan would have probably figured more prominently if there had been a 9th series. Gary Olsen and Belinda Lang, however, were ALWAYS on top form and hand amazing chemistry together.

The Drool bar is one of my favourite episodes from the whole run of the show! Who could forget the scene where they walk in on Jenny wolfing a Drool bar down at the same time she's going mental on an exercise bike!? The end of the ep is also fantastic. Also love the lucky pants episode - but there are so many classic moments that have stuck with me for years from throughout the whole programme - 'Mrs Crudaal', Bill and Rona trapped in the living room by a cobra, Relax-ay-voo, 'I'm going as Dr Beverly Crusha' - 'YOU CAN'T GO NEXT GENERATION!!!', The Brotherhood of the Plunger, Ninja Badger, 'It's the FAB 1!!'... it was just a brilliantly inventive and original show, so much more innovative than its family sitcom counterparts. I agree that Malcolm X was a bit of a dud, and I was never too keen on the biker storyline, but the show was a definite winner and deserves a lot more recognition IMO.

My fave series overall are 4, 5 and 6 pretty much love every episode from those three series, my fave episode if pushed would have to be Series 5s "The Truth is out there" when all the cast are together besides Christine and Bette/Bel at Rona's tryint to contact Rona's dead mother. An absolutely classic episode I wish there had been more likt that with all the cast together in scenes. I also really loved Rona and Tony, its a shame Tony wasn't seen much in the later series'

it's all good...think i preferred it when the series was directed by richard boden though...the original director...as the show was a little stranger under his eye, which i liked. Although i like all episodes, the lad vanishes i felt was a bit too unbelievable. Best ep? one of my favourites is 'vertigo'
