When you work with Nic you MUST be prepared for anywhere he wants to take the scene. I loved this film because it screams New Orleans. This is the real N.O. The poorly lit, horribly written, dreadfully accented actors, and overly gris gris themed films we are shown have about as much as common with real N.O. as Sesame street. The 2nd closest film in accuracy is "Bad Lieutentant Port of Call N.O "
which was released a couple of years ago. And the craziest thing is I'm NOT a big Cage fan. (with the exception of Leaving Las Vegas).
He just seems to have a handle of the coon ass way of life.

There are quite a few respectable N.O. films floating about, but there are just as many to avoid like yellow fever.

Angel Heart is my personal fave with Zandalee coming in second.

My family always thought people that called themselves coon asses or had the "Proud to be a Coon Ass" bumper stickers were ignorant. For us educated Louisianians of Acadian/Cajun ancestry, "coon ass" is a slur on our character, originally referring to backward uneducated French-speaking people but not to be confused with "red-necks" who are "white trash" usually from other states. Like those terms, coon ass is an insult. You don't see African Americans saying "Proud to be a *beep* It all equals to "Proud to be ignorant."

Under our clothes, we are all naked!
