Alright, finally there will be a DVD release for Akira Kurosawa's Dreams!
Here's some details:

Widescreen, English Audio, English Subtitles, French Subtitles, Spanish Subtitles
For those of you interested in getting the DVD, I wish to warn you that this DVD has the aspect ratio of the film at 1.85:1. The original theatrical aspect ratio is 2.35:1.
I just can't understand why the DVD producers had to change the aspect ratio. To me, this greatly spoils the beauty of the cinematic compositions that I'm sure Kurosawa painstakingly made at the aspect ratio of 2:35.1.
Actually, Akira Kurosawa shot the film at a 2.40:1 ratio, or the the 35mm anamorphic ratio, 2.35:1 refers to dvds.

Strange that the movie on imdb.com is listed as
2.35:1 aspect ratio,
yet all the DVD's are 1.85:1,
and all Kurosawa filmography books I have
read list "Red Beard" as his last
Tohoscope [cinemascope] film.
I've heard some people complain about this,
but has anyone actually seen the movie in a
cinemascope aspect ratio?
Theatrically, laserdisc, television,
or otherwise?
