No "self" in the Red Fuji episode

There is only one episode where Kurosawa's self does not appear as the voyager trough the dreams and it is the Red Fuji.

Anyone any ideas about that?

reply

Speaking from memory, but isn't he the guy who is left fending off the radioactive fumes with his jacket at the segment's end? I don't however know if the climber from The Blizzard and the sergeant from The Tunnel are supposed to be Kurosawa.

reply

Mmm, you might be right. The Tunnel episode certainly seems without "self". For the Red Fuji it's hard to be sure, but in case of The Blizzard I guess the main character is "Self" since he was actually quite an avid mountain climber ...

reply

Yeah, apparently the guy from The Blizzard was supposed to be Kurosawa as an adolescent. And I'm pretty sure that the guy from Mount Fuji in Red is also supposed to be him. That rules out The Tunnel as the only segment without him, I guess.

reply

Yes, yes. The hat gives him away, you are right ... That slipped my memory ... Thank you for correcting me.

The Tunnel ... would certainly require some violent logic to project him into that episode. He can only be present as a part of the collective past / consciousness of Japanese nation maybe ...
