Probably the first one, but its hard to say that cause there was nothing wrong with the second

Deal with it

reply

The First one
Tt had a Much better ending. I also liked the music in the first one, it was way more upbeat while the second, although good was more of a downer movie.

I have a slight preference for the second movie, but generally I take them as a set.
The way I see it, with the two films you're seeing the same world from two different viewpoints (not nessesarily the real world, I'm no stickler for historical accuracy, I just mean the movies' internal reality if you catch my meaning).
In the first film you're seeing life as an outlaw through the eyes of an optimistic child. Sure there's danger but it get's smothered by the upbeat fun and adventure aspect, and you're left feeling like that way of life was great.
In the second film the rose tinted glasses come off, and you can see how dirty, dangerous and just plain awful that kind of life is. You get the feeling it was always like that, but with Billy as your viewpoint character you didn't notice it till now because he didn't. He comes to realise what Doc knew all along about outlaw life, but doesn't want to accept it because he's too wrapped up in being a legend.
It sort of reminds me of The Wizard of Oz/Return to Oz, in an obscure sort of way.

I wish they haden't made 2 so damn depressing, by killing everyone off.

young guns 1 is much better thewy are both good but young guns 1 rules!!!!

Initially I hated Young Guns 2 as I'd seen the first Young Guns so many times and didn't care much for the downbeat tone of the second one. Having given it a second chance I now feel that it is just as good as the first one. I found the characters to be a lot more rounded this time out. Were it not for the rubbish bookends at the start and end of the film with Billy the Kid as an old man, and the needless and inaccurate killing of both Doc and Chavez (easily the two best characters over the course of the two movies), then I'd probably say this would have been one of the few sequels that surpass the original.

Beyond good. Beyond evil. Beyond your wildest imagination.

reply

I do say that 2 surpassed 1. The music, the cinematography, and production design were much higher this time around. The story in the first one was good but lacked impact. The second film had a more mythical, almost epic feel to it. It wasn't perfect by any means; the plot meanders at times and the need to kill off Doc and Chavez is a mystery though the latter's death scene was beautifully executed.

I read in trivia that Keifer Sutherland said he would not return for the sequel if they didn't kill of his character. It was scheduling issues. He couldn't be there for the whole film. The writer fought it and lost. I have no clue why Chavez was killed.

YG 2 - most definitely!

Both excellent films but as someone already pointed out Young Guns 2 feels more epic and the music is alot better.

reply

I like 'em both. I can't say which one I like the best.

reply

I've grown up with YG 2, i used to have it on VCR and it ended when they are jumping from a cliffside with the horses and garret's posse following them. Now that i've seen whole of the movie and 1 too... I've got to say the 2nd is more intense, it's like a movie for people that seldom like cowboy's movies. The first one didn't really add anything to the genre. On the 2nd one, you have some story (altought it's kind of innacurate), good soundtrack and cinematography. They way they kill everyone makes the movie more tragic, i like it that way.

Jon Bon Jovi made this one for me, so Young Guns 2.

2 by a little due to edgier visual direction/editing, grander, more epic musical score, more interesting cinematography. But enjoyed both for certain.

Yeah, I just saw both of them for the first time (about a week apart). I thought the second was a much better movie. The first was lacking in story. Of course, the first introduced us to the gang and without that, the second would have felt weak.

Young Guns 3/5

Young Guns II 4/5

Both have hack directors, but "2" had that epic electric score. How many westerns since Leone have had such a soundtrack?

Overall part 1 is better. But the last 20-30 minutes of part 2 is excellent.

reply

Wow I love them both for different reasons. 1 has a much gritter feel and 2 a more...hollywood feel I suppose. They are both awesome though...I pick both! lol
I suppose 2 wins by a tiny margin because it's the first one I saw that got me hooked into the films.
