yet another music doubt...

Can anywone help me identify the music when emily (carré) is dressing up?
She's in front of the mirror and the instrumental keeps playing, just before the scene where wheeler and the boy are at the beach... i know it kind of sounds like paradise or love theme from the OST, but it's not the same...

please help me, thanks!

I love that music too, I believe it's another variation of Wheeler and Emily's theme song, Love Theme.
Too bad it's not on the soundtrack. I don't know if you watch a lot of Zalman King movies but his series RED SHOE DIARIRES there are at least two episodes that I know of, where the exact same music that you are talking about is played. The episodes are, Night of Abandon and Runway. Hope this helps.

I know exactly how you feel. This film touched my heart, mind and soul. The hell with what the critics said!!! I don't like or hate a movie just because some critic said so nor do I think a film is great just because it made box office history.
Do you have the DVD? Watch and listen carefully to the trailer, to what the narrator is saying- I think he sums it up.

There is nothing wrong with you because I feel the same. The emotional response that my soul felt, no other film has done this to me ever!!!! The scenery, the words they spoke, the music was simply hypnotic, much like how Emily felt. I think the problem was and still is people are focusing too much on the sex in the film. If they just took the time to watch the film carefully by watching the trailer first, and listening to the words the actors say and pay close attention to the music and scenery they too will feel the 'ethereal mood' and be moved by the film too.

Zalman King and his wife are so incredibly talented. You mentioned it was your first Zalman King movie- great choice.

Talk to you soon.

great, i can see that im not alone on this!
The movie, all of it just feels like a distant dream or something, it really is kind of disarming, breaks through all my defenses and just soothes me. Transports me into a nicer realm, a glamorous realm, full of feelings and stimulation...

well, gonna go and see the whole "wheeler watching Emily arrive late to the hotel" chapter... great scene!

nice to know u!

you took the words right out of my mouth. It is like a distant dream transporting you into a glamorous realm.......

I like that part too, when Emily rushes to meet Wheeler not knowing he's in the lobby watching her. I also like when they're having supper and he says one day you'll tell your grandkids how you were with a man in Rio with bodyguards......
so sensual and romantic.

what about the scene when Emily is awakened by the phone call and she sees Wheeler there with a bouquet of orchids. How about that?

Ive always liked this movie too! It captures the sensuality of Rio and Emily's sexual awakening perfectly.
I remember when i first saw it, it had got a major bashing by the critics writing it off as pure soft-porn..but i thought it was genuinely very erotic.
The music is PHENOMENAL..i absolutely love the part when you first see Rio and later when Wheeler takes Emily to the masked ball...when the music kicks in it still makes me shudder!..and the volleyball player on the beach is HOT!!!!!!

Its good to hear that there are others who liked this film, if you compare it to later so-called erotic films like Body of Evidence, Color of Night or Sliver..Wild Orchid atleast delivers on every level!

Seems like everyone thinks the volleyball player is hot!

Your second statement about how the film captures the sensuality of Rio and Emily's sexual awakening perfectly is such a perfect statement. I have been to RIO and I tell you there is something about that city- it drips and oozes with such seduction and desire. The atmosphere is so desirable and enticing.

I think what makes this movie so great is the music. It fits perfectly. The scene where Wheeler takes Emily, after they have dinner and he puts the mask on her and Ofra Haza's song starts playing and all the dancers are dancing in masks so erotically.

What about after the 'tunnel of love' scene and Wheeler takes Emily to the abandon building knowing her reaction? What did you think about that? And then when he gives her the necklace and tells her to put it on. She attempts to take it off and he insists she keeps it on. The way he looks at her.......You know at that point Wheeler wants to wrap his arms around her but just can't, he's emotionally not able to.

I too remember when the film came out and critics trashed it. One critic wrote how 'lame the film is. About some girl who goes to Rio and meets a wealthy impotent man played by M. Rourke.' Good grief!!!! That's not what the films about!!!!
I think Zalman and his wife did an awesome job!!! Talk to you soon. I'm glad there's people out there that love this film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, ive always loved it. I managed to get hold of the soundtrack this week on C.D and im so disappointed that the main music i loved in the film is omitted on the CD.
The scene at the masked ball..MISSING!! The camera-pan over Rio in early scenes..MISSING!!!
Gutted is an under-statement.
Nvermind, i will just continue to watch and enjoy via surround-sound on my stereo.
Take it easy!

The main music of the film, the film's music theme is called Paradise but I know what music you're talking about- it's breath-taking. They also omitted the song when Wheeler sees Emily for the first time- It Only has to happen Once. But my favorite music has always been the music you're talking about too. Have you seen Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries, episode called NIGHT OF ABANDON.

It's shot in Rio during carnival and a lot of the music in Wild Orchid is in there too.

I'm getting a brand new 47" Plasma TV delivered at the end of the week and I can't wait to watch Wild Orchid. When I do, a nice glass of wine and a decadent dessert like truffles. I fall in love with the film all over again.

the song you referred "it only has to happen once" is really beautiful, i mean ill always associate it to the the scene of course... but thats not a bad thing!
If i ever direct a movie or at least write the script ill make sure to include that song! its a promise :)

yup, the whole dinner scene is very ethereal... if you are watching the movie with good conditions (in the dark, good tv, nice audio and zero disturbance), you can really BE there... i mean, the dialogues, the whole place... dont you just wanna move there? im portuguese so i know i would fit right in and, if you can order a glass of white wine "um copo de vinho branco, por favor..." you would be too.

About a year ago Zalman King posted that his website was coming soon, Aug 2006 but it's still under construction. Hopefully soon it'll be out.
WILD ORCHID is a smooth, exotic film. I agree with you, you feel like you're floating through a dream. I can watch it over and over and over again and each time I do, it's gets better and better.

Do you know if there's a soundtrack available from the series? I'm totally in love with the modified version of "Love Theme" and have been desperately looking for it for ages now.
