It depends on where you're from, actually...
In American English, "dinky" is an informal word for something small and/or unimpressive. In British English, however, "dinky" is an informal word for being fashionable or well-dressed.

I wish.
But no. Perhaps "slang" was the wrong word to use. Dinky is an 'informal' British word for pretty/neat/fashionable/whatever.
Although slang means the same thing as informal.
Whatever. Google it.

I'm still trying to figure out why anybody would name their child "Sloopy..."

Only Hollywood families. Most of these guys who write these types of scripts, don't have clue about real families. And of course, they had to play the stereotypical lesbian card to appeal to Hollywood's gay elite. A limp way of catering to all.

JaZzIeJeSuS,

Who would spell their as there? Get off the internet and go back to school. Also, names should be capitalized, Buttface!

I thought the film lost some credibility by Dinky not having a 'real' name, like Denise or Danielle etc.
The same thing with the film "Enough", with Jennifer Lopez. Um, who is going to go through life with the name "Slim"?! It was revealed that it wasn't her name as she wanted to be anonymous in the diner..... but even her husband calls her Slim? Oh come on!

I actually knew a boy named Dinky. When I was a kid we stayed at Rockaway beach and Dinky and his sister and family stayed in the same building with us for the summer. He was probably only about 6 years old, though.
