Gaugain

I'm interested in the theory, summarized by Adam Gopnik in the New Yorker, that Gaugain was into sword fighting (fencing) and somehow accidentally cut off Van Gogh's ear. The story goes that Gaugain decamped to Tahiti (albeit three years later).

Vincent and Theo does have a scene where Gaugain draws a sword from his cane (sword) in response to Vincent coming up to him. I realize this is just idle speculation, lol.
