Question....why not use the CB radio to call help from Bixby??

Val and Earl are able to talk back and forth with Burt and Heather for the last half of the movie...so why not use the CB radio to get help from Bixby?

Nancy already asked that. Walter said they couldn't reach outside the mountains.

I always found his comment strange. I don't know much about radio frequencies/signals, but the only way to communicate with Bixby was to drive there?

Im gonna cut this wire&leave the bldg.Then&only then are you going to stand up. Am I clear?- Mrs S

Phone lines were also down--they say this in the same scene as the CB being ineffective.

I think real survivalist nuts like the Gummers would have a HAM/Shortwave setup to communicate with other survivalist nuts after the zombie apocalypse, collapse of society, rapture or what have you.
