UK theatrical release?

It says on Wikipedia that this was released theatrically in the UK. Can anyone confirm this and does that mean there was a widescreen version of it?

Yep, I saw it at the cinema, so it definitely had a theatrical release in the UK. Of course, as you might have seen elsewhere, it was called "Devils Treasure", and not "Treasure Island" over here.

It was called TREASURE ISLAND for UK cinema (I have the original poster still to prove it), DEVILS TREASURE for UK VHS rental, and back to TREASURE ISLAND for VHS retail - no idea why they switched between the 2 titles.

There would be no widescreen - it was shot full frame 1.33; if it was open matte then cinemas would have been able to show it 1.85 by cropping the top and bottom but I would have to watch the film again to see if the excess headroom would have allowed for this...

Seen here in Switzerland ca 90/91. Had a great Dolby Stereo Sound mix. Best seen in 1:1.66 ascect Ratio, 1.85 is a little bit narrow but was shown this way in Theatres.
