How did Billy Bones die?

I had always wondered how Billy Bones eventually died. I asked my Dad about it and he suggested probably from alcohol poisoning (which makes sense considering the amount of rum he was consuming). Anyone have an idea?

A) Alcohol poisoning

B) ?

I think he may have had a stroke (though it was brought on by poor habits such as heavy drinking).

My impression, too - a sudden, massive stroke just waiting to happen, and triggered by fear and rage that would have sent his bloodpressure skyrocketing.

reply

It was in fact a stroke produced by longtime chronic alcohol use.

According to the book 'the captain was struck dead by thundering apoplexy'

Yes, that's 18th century language for a stroke.

My guess is yeah, just the booze got him in the end. his body just gave up.
another theory is since he was handed "The Black Spot" only a minute or so before he died could be a factor too.
