Dexter wears Pro Wings.

For anyone who grew up in the 80's, there were few footwear choices more heinous than Pro Wings. They were sold exclusively at Famous Footwear, and provided very little in the ways of cushioning, performance or style. Made entirely of third-rate materials, these shoes were sub-standard in every way. Anyway, I always chuckle when I see this movie, because the leading man (Dexter Ward) wears Pro Wing Eagles (their line of wretched basketball shoes) throughout the entire film. The wardrobe department truly dropped the ball on this one. Couldn't they have at least scraped up $35.00 for some KangaRoos?

Remember what they said when they reached the castle? Marisa/Teri Copley said "This isn't much of a castle!", and Dexter/Steve Altman said, "I'm sure they did the best with the budget they had."

Haha.

LOL When I saw this I remember Pro Wings from when I was younger! I think my father had a pair of those when I was a kid. LOL WOW I am 35 years old and the memory of those brings back some memories for me.

It seems like they were also sold at Payless Shoe Source.

As I recall the 80's wasn't the greatest for shoes. There weren't any good brand name outlets so if your family wasn't rich you got stuck with things like Pro Wings.

They were made of pleather. Honest to goodness pleather. They didn't breathe and along with the problems mentioned by the OP, they fell apart at such a rapid rate that Adidas shell toes would have actually costed less over time.

I know it's supposed to be about Transylvania Twist but...

Okay does anybody else remember Diadora? For some reason the kids at my school pronounced it Ah-Dee-Ah-Door. Just wondering if anybody else remembers them. I haven't seen them on anybody in ages.

Great now I want some vintage L.A. Gears just like my black, pink, and silver pair in 7th grade. I better quit before I start longing for acid wash and spandex.

Yes I believe they were sold at Payless Shoe Source like you said.

No they were not all that great for shoes and I do remember the Pro Wings because my father had a few pair of those to wear when I was a kid. I do not think shoes did not start getting better until like Nike came along and started up Michael Jord high tops.

The quality of shoes started to change then. I never really paid attention to the kind of material that the shoes were made out of to be honest with you. That is not good that they fell apart pretty easily and quickly too.

Addidas was a very good brand and are still around today. They use a lot of the classic looks that made them so popular in the 80's. I remember working at the Finish Line as an Assistant Store manager from 2003 to 2004 and one of the managers that I worked with kept asking the Addidas rep that he would love to see some of the break dancing clothes that were popular in the mid 80's be in the store to sell.

To be honest with you I do not remember Diadora. Possibly they are no longer around now or were bought out by some comptitor.

LOL Cool that you want a pair of those L.A. Gears! I bet you look great in acid wash and spandex. LOL Those were the good old days and I miss the 80's.

They were for sure. Thankfully I avoided the indignity of Pro Wings, however a kid in my 7th grade class had a pair and one day I noticed that one of them had cracked open length-wise down the side. Not a tear, but a crack.

That is not good to hear about a crack in the shoe. I would not want to spend money for that to happen with shoes that I paid for to use.
