To those in charge of DVD releases--Wake Up!

Since the recent television "Broken Trail" has received both good reviews and decent ratings, it would appear to me to be a no-brainer to release this fine film. BT's success had proven that not only are people still fascinated by Westerns, but are also very curious about other cultures' experiences on the frontier.

I realize that releasing it now would open this fine film up to charges of capitilizing on another movie's success and that this board might be inundated with dozens of "Broken Trail was better. . . .No, it wasn't!" messages, but this wouldn't be the first film to find its own audience by piggybacking on someone else's success and hey, discussion and debate keeps the internet humming along.

My Cinema professor knew Nancy Kelly and showed this film to us, and even had Nancy Kelly come and speak. Apparently the production got majorly screwed over by the company that was to release the film to VHS and some lawsuits followed - I don't know maybe that has something to do with why no DVD producers are touching this film. Of course Nancy herself has a DVD copy, which we were shown, but it was like some home burned copy.

I agree. I'd love to see that movie (1000 Pieces of Gold) again. Over the years I've looked for it every once in a while hoping that someone had released it. Add my vote. Who do we talk to?

My film professor was an associate producer on the film so I'll ask her about possibly getting a copy to anyone who wants one.

SHEESH!! There's STILL no freaking DVD of this movie? I'm stunned, particularly after the popularity of airing and DVD release of Broken Trail. You'd think they'd ALSO get a clue, from the popular, fully-restored, re-releases of "How the West Was Won" (film), and "Lonesome Dove" (mini-series). SMART westerns will never go out of style.

This movie aired again today on the Encore--Westerns Channel, and I enjoyed it as much as when it was first released. Although I was aware of Rosalind Chao at that time, this film was my first exposure to Chris Cooper. Then as now, he brings a unique combination of strength and vulnerability to his role.

Used VHS videotape copies are available in plentiful numbers on Amazon.

But still no DVD.
