Casey is a bit weird.

I LOVE these movies and have watched them about a hundred times each, since I was a kid but it's only just occurred to me how strange Casey is. He just goes around town with a bag of sports equipment to use as weapons so he can protect and provide justice for random citizens? Is there a reason for this in his backstory? I tried to pay attention today to see if it's explained and I've missed it somewhere, but I was babysitting and distracted.

Probably in the comics.

I think the scene with Raphael early on and then later on the ranch with April gives you enough you can figure it out. The original RPG book Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles And Other Strangeness was the first place to give him a full back story. Later, the 2003 animated series (Tales of the TMNT vol. 2 adapted that as the official canon). The old comics were more like the movie and you just had to piece it together.

A good fan film from 2011, aptly titled Casey Jones, adapts all of his mythos well into one story.

LOL @ you watching a movie about mutated turtles and a mutated rat that are masters of Ninjitsu, and you say CASEY is the weird one.

Hahahaha fair point!

Very true.

Isn't he homeless or something? In New York in the 80s, no less. He probably had to be a little unhinged, and tough, to get by. Especially with ninjas crawling all over the place in the shadows.

I like to think he kind of lives in the same world as the turtles.

I never thought he was homeless. Just in a crummy apartment.
