Female Punk <3

I'm sure everyone knows who I'm talking about here. The first scene at the warehouse, one of the first people we see is a punk girl blowing a bubble from her bubble gum. When I first watched this movie as a kid, I thought she was disgusting, but watching it again on the weekend - that was my turning point. Just seeing the way she moved and walked was so tough, but feminine. I love this chick. If only she was about 10 or so years younger - closer to my current age :)

Sorry the link in the image below isn't very clear, but she's everything about my ideal girl, short, petite and tough. Yes sir 

I wonder what she looks like now? Why did you think she was disgusting as a kid?

Movie Theater: Young Frankenstein 10/10. RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time.

reply

I was only a young lad and the thought of her blowing the gum like that really turned me off lol. But now I can see she was just a typical teenager going through a phase :)

Just saw this movie again last week and noticed her right away. Totally agree that she looks strong and sexy at the same time. I think she might be the only girl in that whole warehouse lol funny thing is that I was 4 when this came out so I would have totally thought she was yucky but now daam girl

Several years ago I started a thread here titled "Bubblegum Strumpet" as an ode to her. When that thread was eventually buried and booted someone actually came along and revived it. Searching the board it looks like it too is long gone.

She's only on screen for like a second, but I don't know if anyone has ever done more with less than the sassy Bubblegum Strumpet 😘.

reply

I remember that thread.

reply

Gosh she was hot. Beats all the princesses running around today taking pictures of themselves in the mirror.

Yeah she's hot
i told you not to stop the boat. Now lets go. Apocaylpse Now

reply

Ah yes, the first time I re-watched this movie as an adult this babe immediately took my attention. Man, she was what you call a dream girl...

Now Judith Hoag was some serious eye-candy (all I could ask for in a movie), but it would've been so satisfying if the punk cutie had appeared in more scenes.

You want something corny? You got it!

reply

Meh. Hoag was alright.

I have seen her she shows up twice in the movie she is not a known actresses her career went nowhere.

reply

Twice? Ok so we know she showed up once when she was blowing the bubble gum, but what was the other scene?

Maybe in one of the crowd scenes.

She shows up again hanging on the arm of some guy at the end of the film.

While April is fixing her hair and putting on make up, looking into the side view mirror of a vehicle just before Casey walks up to her with a black eye and makes out with her. She walks by in the background.

She also doesn't just walk off screen after blowing the bubble gum. She continues to walk up to a kid playing an arcade machine and grabs him to get his attention as the camera pans away.

reply

Very true. Wonder what she looks like now?

RIP Gene Wilder. RIP Robert Vaughn. RIP Carrie Fisher. RIP William Christopher. 2016 is the worst!

reply

I'd rather not know personally.

I suppose it's because I am subconsciously comparing her to another enigmatic figure.

The National Geographic girl.

There was a girl with beautiful eyes that became the cover of a national geographic magazine and became really popular for it. So much so that some investigators decades later actually went on a trip to find her. When they did they found she had not aged well. Even though her eyes were a dead give away to who she was. they were no longer impressive as before. So the mystery that came with the photo sort of died out. I mean it was nice to get closure.

But I worry that should this bubble gum punk ever surface the same effect will befall her and perhaps even ruin many peoples childhoods.

reply

I know the National Geographic girl you're talking about. Agreed, however that's one of the most famous photos of all time. Comparing her with the bubblegum girl from this movie is peculiar to say the least.

To me they have the same effect. So it's not so much about popularity, or the artistic aspect of the shot. It's a brief encounter with a mysterious figure which leaves an enormous impact on ones memory and gives us a desire to know more about it.

reply

Enormous impact? Lol. Whatever floats your boat, my man.

RIP Gene Wilder. RIP Robert Vaughn. RIP Carrie Fisher. RIP William Christopher. 2016 is the worst!

reply

Well, for a girl who only appears in the movie for about 5 seconds, a no-name, uncredited character, who we still remember a good 25 years after we first saw the movie... I would say it was a pretty big impact :)

On that note: how can we ever forget those snazzy Foot costumes?

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

Magazine cover? Which one?

I'll have to keep a close eye on that part next time I watch it. Yes I noticed that part where she walks up to kid playing on the arcade machine and puts her arm on him or something. A tough, inner-city chick.
