Creepshow relationship?

Does anyone know what the relationship is between Tales From the Darkside: The Movie and a potential Creepshow 3? Was TFTD supposed to be Creepshow 3 or something?

reply

I was thinking that, I actually enjoyed it more than the creepshow movies though, but it's still not a patch on Tales from the Crypt or the Outer Limits.
But it is still very entertaining and when i first saw it I just thought it was gonna be naff piece of crap, but I was just entertained by seeing all of the stars before they got big. The mummy episode was the best though, the cat one was awful and the Love story was so-so, but with a good twist.

What can I say....I'm a 'bleep'ing people person

Creepshow was proposed as a potential TV series and fell through because WB and Laurel Productions both owned rights to Creepshow, Laurel went off and created Tales From The Darkside The TV series as a direct response.

That may be where you get the connection. This movie was based on the Tales From The Darkside TV series.

If anyone reads in the trivia section everyone involved with both Creepshow and TFTDS felt that Tales was more of a Creepshow 3

reply

It doesn't feel like a CREEPSHOW though, that's just it.

Um... I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. It think this movie definitely does feel like a Creepshow... at least a little bit. It feels way more like the 3rd Creepshow, than that unofficial Creepshow 3.

Creepshow 3 was NOT "unofficial" it was very much official.

I know the "fans" like to think of TFTD as "Creepshow 3"...but it just is not.
I'm also fully aware of the history of TFTD as a movie and TV show...but none of that make it an "official" connection to Creepshow at all.

Creepshow is it's own franchise and TFTD is it's own franchise.

according to WIKI:
"The original basis of this film was to be at one point the 2nd sequel in the Creepshow franchise. It did not come to be, and with the popularity of the Tales from the Darkside television series, producers opted to add the title of that show to the film. However, Tom Savini has been quoted as saying that this film is the real "Creepshow 3"

But then- Wiki isnt a credited source LOL

All of this Creepshow 3 crap really gets on my nerves... so please allow me to set the record straight.

There is no "Billy" in this movie

There is no "Creep" in this movie

There are no comic book panels in this movie

Only one story in this movie was written by Stephen King, not all of them like a Creepshow should be

The stories are darker

There is almost no humour

The "Tales from the Darkside" theme can be heard at the begining and end

Debbie Harry takes out a thick book at the begining that says "Tales from the Darkside" with the show's logo and the theme music can be heard.

John Harrison directed this and it's quite fitting since he directed many of the episodes of the TV series.

The overall feel of the movie feels like a rated R version of the TV show... which is basically what it is.

Christian Slater was in the TFTD episode "A case of the stubborns" and he returns for the movie

William Hickey was in the episode "The Circus" and he returns for the movie

Philip Lenkowsky was in the episode "Everybody needs a little love" and he returns for this movie.

Debbie Harry was in the episode "The Moth" and she returns for this movie

I could care less what Tom Savini said. I have major respect for the man and his work, but this movie has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with Creepshow other than the fact that it may have originally been planned for one.

But it isn't. It is it's own creature... and a great one at that.

Also, as far as the "official" Creepshow 3 is concerned... we all need to realize that it's just a quick cash in from Tauros entertainment, just like the crap that was "Day of the Dead 2 Contagium". Anyone who seriously puts that in the Trilogy needs help as it is a peice of garbage and has nothing to do with comics or Stephen King.

Maybe if the kid was named Billy, and was reading the CREEPSHOW comic to the witch. And the segments were campier and at least one had a "happy" ending.

Read the trivia section for this movie. Tales From The Darkside (TV show) was originally going to be a Creepshow TV series. During pre-production on the show the title was changed from Creepshow to Tales From The Darkside. So there is a connection between both franchises. The fact that George Romero was involved with both and that a lot of crew members from Creepshow worked on Tales From The Darkside: The Movie also shows that these franchises are, at least, very similar. Let's not forget Tom Savini stating that this is the real Creepshow 3.

Also if you don't look at this as connected to Creepshow you shouldn't look at Creepshow 3 as connected either. Romero and King weren't involved with that at all so this more Creepshow than that horrible excuse for a Creepshow that we ended up getting.

Even the TV show never felt very CREEPSHOW. And the same film-makers or even Tom Savini's own words doesn't feel very CREEPSHOW. Neither does CREEPHOW III of course. That's the problem.

We need a true part 3.

I think that once the title changed it wouldn't feel very Creepshow because you're not thinking about Creepshow while watching Tales From The Darkside. I think if it were still called Creepshow they may have had the comic book thing in the episodes (I don't know that for sure I'm just guessing). I think this is more Creepshow than Creepshow III. Hopefully they'll eventually make a true part 3. They have one listed here on IMDb, but it looks like it's not going to happen.

Definitely and the boy in the beginning is probably Billy! there's no animated wraparound stories in this one.

For those saying that this movie doesn't feel like a Creepshow film because it's missing Billy, The Creep, and the comic book panels, you are right. However, the "actual" Creepshow 3 also omits these standard elements as well. So whoever said that the absolutely atrocious Creepshow 3 felt more like a Creepshow film than this is sadly mistaken. Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, while still missing several crucial ingredients that are a prevalent part of the Creepshow formula, seems much more like a Creepshow film than Creepshow 3.

Well i can see Raoul from Creepshow 1 being Cryptkeeper, Creep being like Vault Keeper and Betty like The Old Witch.

Creepshow 3 was an in-name-only cashin sequel that has no relationship with the first 2 with no King and Romero and this one is the closet thing to a Creepshow 3.
