Lover's vow twist was too obvious

Think about it, Carola showed up almost immediately after Preston made his promise. If it had been the next day or a week later I would have been more surprised. Or came up with a story about her family being estranged or dead.

Spoilers:

Agreed!

I think it works well as a twist or not. I remember when I first saw this years ago I kept wanting to yell at the TV don't tell her because she is the gargoyle! With all the times he almost told her and the chalk drawings he had laying around it was annoying! If you don't guess then great too because then it is a nice surprise. I felt bad for the kids, for once...:(

They were together ten years and apparently nothing came up of her having parents or anything like that.

The segment is a loose adaptation of a Japanese ghost story "The Woman in the Snow."

Additionally, where did she get the clothes she was wearing when she first met Preston?

I never really thought of it as a 'twist' exactly. You're right, it seems really obvious and I think it's meant for us to be watching it saying "Don't tell her!"

I knew there was something mysterious about Carola and that she was connected to the creature in some way, but I didn't think she actually was the creature so I was actually kind of surprised.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

I thought Chong played the role too slinky and mysterious (not to mention too trusting of this weirdo who accosted her on the street!), so I wasn't surprised by the ending at all. I also wish the story had a little more narrative logic (which stories of the supernatural need); like, why exactly did she kill the bartender, rather than (say) the creepy agent; why did she swear him to this vow; why didn't she try to interrupt him when he started to break it (out of love for her), etc.
And how is this gargoyle such great friends with the trendy art gallery owner?

If the story answered all your questions it would have lost all of its power. The unexplained quality is what makes it so effective. If Groundhog Day explained the time loop it would have diminished itself utterly. Mystery is what stirs the imagination.

That said, your bartender question is reasonable. I’m guessing he got slashed to pieces either because he was about to shoot the gargoyle, or because the ‘promise’ required the vow-taker to witness a killing - making it harder to keep quiet.

I agree completely, highly predictable ending. Are viewers so dumb or clueless to be unable to foresee such an obvious "twist"?
And that ending... sooo sappy. 

I initially thought she was going to bite his back and turn him into a gargoyle so they ould be a gargoyle family- now that would've been beat

Preston should have said to Carola, "Don't kill me! You're the gargoyle of my dreams!" 

reply

She tried but missed and took out his throat by accident. She was out of practice.

I guess I was too dumb and clueless. I thought the gargoyle was going to kill her and the kids.

reply

Yeah, I saw it coming from a mile away. The only saving grace of that one was the incredibly sexy James Remar, but the other three stories were quite good.
