Dennis' song
What song is it Dennis is singing and playing twice in the movie? The slow romantic piano song. Does anyone know?

shareI'd like to know as well. Man that's a good song!!!!
shareI haven't found that song on any Beach Boys-album or Dennis solo. Strange...
shareYeah, me neither. I've searched on the internet through all Dennis Wilson's songs and nothing!!
I think it may be someone else's song.
Probably. I don't even know the title... that would help.
shareIt's not dennis's song it's a knockoff of the song forever he wrote
shareHello,
could anybody give some words or a lyric-line of the song?
Alex
"You can/could bring me joy"
"With just a simple..."
That's about all I can remember!
you can listen to the song, at least what's in the movie, at a Bruce Greenwood fan site:

The site listed above says it's an original song (by Bruce Greenwood?) but I believe that Dennis did indeed sing a song called "You are So Beautiful" on a live Beach Boys DVD... was it the last one recorded in the UK? I think so. Check Amazon. But there is another song that is certainly by Dennis and that is a song called "Barbara", an ode to Dennis' second wife. It was previously unreleased. Fortunately, this track is available on the Beach Boys Endless Harmony Soundtrack (the CD companion to the "awesome" DVD documentary that originally appeared on VH1. I say "awesome" because it is the documentary that reintroduced me to The Beach Boys and their place in music history and Americana. It is one of the authorized biograpical works out there. Have fun listening and watching!
share"You are so beautiful" is another song. Dennis did sing it but it's not the song in the movie.
shareYeah, the general consensus is that the song in the movie was written specifically for the movie. Heck, with the embarrassingly low quality of the research done for that film, you think they'd actually dig up an unused Dennis song, much less something from the early '70s or Pacific Ocean Blue? :)
"You Are So Beautiful," btw, apparently has a Dennis connection and explains why he used to sing it in concert. I think it was Billy Hinsche who witnessed Dennis actually WRITING the song with Billy Preston at a party. Dennis isn't credited -- he apparently was never one to ask for credit when helping someone write something.
When Billy Preston was a guest at Beatlefest a couple of years ago, I asked him about that; I asked him what Dennis contributed to that song. He laughed and said "Who???" "Uhh...Dennis Wilson?" "HA HAAAAAAAAAA!!!! WHOOO????!?!?!? haaa haaaaa!" "Dennis Wilson, from the Beach Boys..." "Naw, naw, man....ha haaaa!!! He's trippin'! He didn't write that!" [accompanied by a ballroom of a few thousand people laughing]
I posted about that in a couple of Beach Boys forums...basically, the consensus was that according to Billy Hinsche, both Dennis and Billy Preston were probably too stoned that night they wrote it to even remember...someone else suggested that maybe Billy Preston was just convering himself to avoid legal problems if he admitted in public that Dennis helped write it but not get credit...
I'm not positive it's ever been released. But my guess is it's something off of the Pacific Ocean Blue Album Dennis Released as a Solo Project.
I believe it's "Only With You".
Unreleased Pacific Ocean Blue outtake that's now on the reissue.
Could be wrong though.
I'm afraid not. I too was hoping to find it as an extra on the POB re-issue. I guess it is a specially written song. I've just bought the movie on DVD from Amazon, but am awaiting delivery. Does anyone know how (if?) this mystery song is listed in the credits?

I think in a sense the producers did do their research and attempted to create a 'Dennis Wilson' song for Bruce Greenwood to sing.
The song shared the aforesaid qualities of 'Forever' and Barbara' so it fit perfectly although I did wonder myself if this was some lost Dennis Wilson tune but sadly no.

The song was made up for the film- sorry guys but the only thing you can do is buy the film and listen to the 30 seconds/first few lines
Like the poster said above- it was a bit like Barbara
Found this on youtube:

Here is the real scoop. The song was written by me, Jay Levy. It's called "You're Never Far Away". I am playing the piano. The original vocal was by David Morgan, but Bruce Greenwood wanted to sing it, so he faked playing to my piano part and added his vocal. I also wrote the original score to Summer Dreams and produced, and played and sang on all the Beach Boy recreations as well as coaching the actors. I also had a small acting part in the film. It was an amazing experience and I'm glad to hear that there are people who like the song. Thanks!
Happy 2014…Jay
