a underestimated classic

if this movie came out in any other year than 1990, it would have got the credit it deserved, the early 90s was realy a golden age for gangsters/hood movies,
in 1990 alone we had goodfellas, millers crossing, godfather 3 and king of new york, it was realy overshadowed by goodfellas probaly one of the greatest gangster movies of all time, but for me state of grace is right up there with tha classic gangster movies of all time,

its also way better than the over rated the departed

I personally put it up there with the best ganger pictures I've ever seen. And yes, this goes back to the Cagney, Robinson, and Bogart days. I love its quiet, dark, and brooding intensity, elevated by Morricone's haunting score.

Its the perfect movie to watch on St Patricks day haha

100% agree... Despite the high powered cast, The Departed failed to capture the pervasive sense of dread so prevalent in State of Grace. Departed came off disjointed and off-balance to me. State of Grace will always be one of my favorites of this genre.

I've watched it a couple times this past week. I always like bringing out this time of year.
