Why aren't those women wearing gloves when handling the baked goods?

Just finished watching this movie on YouTube (I enjoyed it for the most part) and I couldn't stop thinking this whenever they showed Fonda at work. Earlier, the foreman was upset with one of them 'cause she wasn't wearing her hairnet properly, but he wasn't concerned about bare hands?! And in another early scene, it looked like they were spreading frosting on cakes, but they weren't using any utensils, just their bare hands. *vomit*

This was before health regulations were quite so strict in making employees wear gloves.
When I was growing up, no one ever wore gloves when preparing food that I saw.
You were technically required to wash your hands, but not to wear gloves.

Even in dental offices (!), almost no one wore gloves back then.

"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I'm not bothered by the fact that they weren't wearing gloves, because if any of those women have a bad day, then it's very likely they're going to spit on it anyway.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
