Who else has seen this movie?

I first saw this relatively short movie today at 4:30am on Sundance. This movie is pretty weird, especially the ending. Did anybody feel bad for Stan at the end?

Yes, it was pretty weird. In fact, I had my hand on the remote and almost turned it off about 30 minutes in. I kept asking myself, what is the point? But I have come to the conclusion that it is basically a story about one man's alienation from just about everything around him--his lover, his students, and even his life. I thought the movie did a good job making the viewer feel this alienation.

I also thought it was interesting to see how theatrical the director made it. According to this site, he has done a lot of music for films, as well as acting and directing (and it appears from watching this, that he might have had some experience in theater production as well). If you watch carefully, you will see that a lot of the production design looks like sets in a stage play. Also, the characters resemble stage actors, with their dramatic dialog, poetic monologues, and stagey actions. So I thought that this motif was sort of interesting.

But it is an extremely offbeat, unpleasant movie and many people may not care enough to want to analyze it.

And no, I had no sympathy for Stan at the end. He was a miserable person and I really didn't feel anything for him as a character.
