spoiler question

Was Clint Howard's character really supposed to be Ricky from parts 2 and 3? This looked like it was lensed as a stand alone film and then marketed as a SNDN sequel. I havent seen this since I was very young, so my memory is sortve fuzzy.

Thanks in advance

It's ambiguous- it's a hazy is he isn't he question. I think it is interesting though that in the really great scene in which Ricky lays seige to Kim's apartment he sits on the foot of the bed watching SNDN 3 on TV. When asked who he is he replies "Santee Claus Killer!" so in my eyes that makes him the same Ricky- he's just obviously fell into a group of feminist witches after his years in therapy haha!

The film was shot as a SNDN sequel but judging from director Yuzna's comments regarding him wanting to make a stand alone sequel/something different to the Return of the living Dead series I'm pretty sure he was thinking of the same thing here as he was when he did Return 3. I've read a few comments online which seem to back this up, citing that the films producers wanted to "do a Halloween 3" and move the series away from a psycho Santa slasher and push it into a franchise of Christmas themed horror movies. On the other hand, however, I read an online review a while ago which claimed the film was originally under production as an orginal movie when producers decided to drop in a few superfluous Yuletide elements and turn it into a sequel. The film was alledgedly going to be titled Bugs (like it's UK video release since none of the other SNDN have seen the light of day on British shores- well, except for part 5 which was released on video as just "The Toy Maker").

Thank you Viv. I had forgotten about the part in which Ricky said that line. Thank you for refreshing my memory. Im accually tempted to rent all 5 SNDN films and watch them all back to back now.

No worries- happy to help! I seem to be the only person who swears religiously by this film haha.

Thanks for the background. I gathered from the scene with the TV that Clint Howard was the permanently damaged Santa Claus killer, but until that point I just thought this was a "Halloween III"-type "name only" sequel.

It's really not a Christmas film or much of a "SNDN" sequel, but it's better than both categories in my book.
