Fetch that man a ceegar...

I thoroughly enjoyed this cracking little film, but I do have questions: was ASttS sponsored by the tobacco lobby?..I don’t think I’ve seen so many individuals spark up so many cigars in such a short time since The longest Day, and that was set some 50 years before...And why did Elizabeth McGovern’s career falter?..I know she’s lived over here in the UK for quite some time, but she did have the chops in the late 80’s & early 90’s and then fell off the map...Shame...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...

It has been said that McGovern took time to raise her children while living in the UK. Being on far flung movie sets for long periods to do films, especially in the US, didn't seem to be her choice.

I had seen her in various plays and things in London throughout the decade. She seemed to be working in a medium that would allow her to stay in London and be with her kids, while still performing and keeping her hand in.

She also was in quite a few small UK films at that time too.

But then came Downton Abbey---which actually stretches her far less as an actor than most of anything she's done in her career IMHO.

She was especially great in "Three Days of Rain" years ago at the Donmar Warehosue with Colin Firth. She's very very good on stage.
